Norma Lee Ohlson Gress, 86, passed away on July 16, 2023, in Topeka, Kansas following a long battle with Alzheimer's. She was born June 22, 1937, in Colorado Springs, CO, the daughter of Norman and Agnes Burgess Ohlson.
Norma graduated from Colorado Springs High School in 1955 and went on to get her bachelor's degree in education from the University of Colorado in Boulder in 1959. She later received her Master's in Reading from the University of Northern Colorado in 1988. Norma was a career educator, primarily teaching 1st and 2nd grades.
She married the love of her life, Lyle Edward Gress, on June 22, 1958 in Colorado Springs, CO. They celebrated 60 years of marriage prior to his death in 2018. They raised their three children in Sterling, CO before retiring in Woodland Park, CO.
Norma is survived by her loyal fur baby, Moka; daughter Kerry Gress of Frederick, CO and her three children Lauren and Tyler Russell, and Reagan (Lui) Zubiate; daughter Amy (Greg) McLaren of Topeka, KS and their daughter Kristen (Benjamin) Wooten; as well as Steve's children Mike Gress, Kyle (Erica) Gress, and Tara Gress; brother Ronald (Jackie) Ohlson of Mill Creek, WA; sister Wanda (John) Alderton of Colorado Springs, CO; as well as numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Norma was preceded in death by her parents, a son Steve Gress, and a grandson Andy McLaren.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Young Life Foundation at PO Box 520 Colorado Springs, CO 80901-0520.
Memorial services will be held at Woodland Park Community Church, 800 Valley View Drive Woodland Park, CO 80863 at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 31st. Family visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
