Obed Sunde Obituary

Rev. Obed Olaf Sunde, 87 of Colorado Springs, CO went to be with his Lord after a brief illness, surrounded by his family, on Good Friday, March 25th, 2016.

Obed was born on February 28th 1929 in Arlington, SD to Reverend Lars and Nina Sunde, the youngest of five children. His father accepted calls to pastorally serve communities in South Dakota and eventually Kasson, Minnesota where Obed graduated from high school. After completing high school Obed entered St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN where he met and eventually married his wife of 64 years Jane Dorothy Heimark who was also a student. After completion of his Bachelors degree at St. Olaf College he enrolled in Wartburg Seminary in Dubuque, Iowa graduating with a Masters of Divinity degree. Upon graduation accepted a call to serve as pastor of Christ Lutheran Church in Pickrell, Nebraska. He continued his ministry serving congregations in Hawaii and Arizona eventually completing his lifetime of ministry in Colorado churches serving the congregation of Mount Calvary Lutheran Church for 17 years before ending his career in La Junta, Colorado.

As summer employment during college he drove tour cars to the summit of Pike's Peak and was an excellent craftsman completing wood carvings and other works of art that are treasured remembrances to his family.

He is survived by his wife Jane, sons Ted, Jon his wife Rhonda and Dan. Daughters Nancy, Amy her husband Jeff as well as eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his siblings Konstance, Jeremiah and Loraine and is survived by his older brother Luke.

No formal memorial service is planned in accordance with his wishes.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lutheran Social Services in his memory.
