Octavian Martinez Obituary

Octavian “Tav� Martinez, age 84, a resident of Colorado Springs since 2000 and formerly of Rawlins, Wyoming; Denver, Colorado; and Sun City West, Arizona passed away on Monday, July 19, 2010 at his home in Colorado Springs. He had retired from the railroad and was also a retired Engineer with the Lockheed Martin Corporation. Octavian Alires Edwardo Cordova Martinez was born on July 4, 1926 in Rawlins to Miguel and Josefita (Cordova) Martinez. He graduated from Rawlins high school in 1943 and attended UCCS. He served his country honorably in the United States Navy during World War II. He married Shirley LaVerne Wilcox on December 27, 1998 in Sedona, Arizona. Tav enjoyed dancing, music, and the Arts. He loved his family, building things and fine scotch. He will be best remembered for his great sense of humor and love for his grandchildren. Mr. Martinez is survived by his wife: Shirley; his daughter: Karen (Andre) Tajariol of Besana, Italy; his son: Bill Holden (and Jo Sola) of Henderson, Nevada; and his son: Michael Martinez of Cinisello, Italy. He is also survived by fourteen grandchildren; five great grandchildren and his sister: Catherine Gaia of Salt Lake City. He was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister. Private family services were held, cremation is planned and he will be inurned in the Tajariol Mausoleum in Brianza, Italy at Christmas time. Memorials in his name may be made to the Rocky Mountain Cancer Centers in care of the RMCC Foundation, 1161 S. Vivian Street, Lakewood, Colorado 80228.

We'll miss our feisty neighbor - his stories were the best! It's not been the same around the neighborhood since he stopped his regular walks with Brandy, his beautiful redhead! Our sympathy to all his family but especially to Shirley.
