Oliver Serna Obituary

May 11, 1930 - January 17, 2009 SSG Oliver Joseph "O.J." Serna (United States Army, Retired), a resident of Colorado Springs since 1972, passed away January 17, 2009 at Aspen Living Center. Oliver Joseph Serna was born on May 11, 1930 in San Luis, Colorado to Lucas and Agapita (Vialpando) Serna. He married Dorothy J. Read, on June 9, 1979 in Mexico. OJ proudly served his country for 22 years and was also an accomplished carpenter. He was an avid fisherman and outdoorsman, finding great enjoyment in hunting, camping and woodworking. O.J. is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy J. Serna; two sons: Douglas and Dante Serna; two daughters: Deanna (Ron) Stanley and Melinda Whitfield; two brothers: Lucas and Amos Serna; four sisters: Ida Ortega, Nancy Gonzales, Rebecca Bell and Patsy Rivera; six grandchildren and one great-grandson. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers: Clyde and Ernest Serna. A visitation will be from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 24, 2009 with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul Catholic Church, 9 El Pomar Road, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80906.
