Opal Root Obituary

Opal Root, age 71, of Colorado Springs peacefully passed away on August 11, 2009. She was born on June 1, 1938 to Ernest and Hilda Bohling. Opal was raised in Meade, KS, Cimarron, KS and Ordway, CO. In 1956, Opal graduated from Ordway High School. She attended Blair Business College and went on to work for Colorado Interstate Gas Company for close to 30 years. Opal married Harold Vernon Root in 1961 and was blessed with four children. She took all of her personal and moral obligations seriously and was a strong defender of her faith. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church for 50 years. During that time, she was involved in the Ruth Guild and choir. She also served on the school board of Immanuel Lutheran School and enjoyed being a school cook and Cub Scout den mother when her children were young. In her later years, Opal served as a local election judge and enjoyed square dancing. Opal is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Wallace and sisters, Naomi, Ruby, Luinda, and Irma. She is survived by brothers, Marvin and Arlen; sisters, Alice and Arlene; children, Pam (Steve) Pagel, Russell (Cindy), Darrell, and Dale Root; and granddaughters, Marcy and Bethany Pagel, Morgan, Andrea, and Heather Root. A memorial service celebrating Opal's life is scheduled at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 846 E. Pikes Peak Ave., on Saturday, August 22, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.

Our deepest sympathies in the loss of your mother. We had square danced with her many years ago at Immanuel. Opal was a very special person.

I am very saddened to hear of Opal's passing. I was just thinking about her the other day when I was driving by her old home on Union. I was quite surprised to she has passed away. I also worked with Opal at CIG and enjoyed many conversations with her. I will keep your family in my prayers.
