Orlando Lucero Obituary

Lucero
ORLANDO "DR. OJ" LUCERO
1943
March 5, 2021
Dr. OJ, a dedicated dentist, hard-working, stubborn, lover of food, Pepsi, travel, sports, old westerns, fishing, and being surrounded by family and friends, died Friday, March 5th, 2021.
Dr. OJ was born in LaJara, Colorado where he graduated from LaJara HS, Valedictorian, class president, and star athlete. Following high school, he married his high school sweetheart, Sharon Franklin. He then attended Adams State College and graduated from St. Louis University School of Dentistry. He also served as an officer at Great Lakes Naval Base before setting up practice in Colorado Springs in July of 1971.
His passion for dentistry and people shone through his many accomplishments as an examiner for the Central Regional Board of the ADA, a position with the Colorado Dental Association, and recognition by Harvard Medical as among the top dentists in the country. More important to Dr. OJ was the care of the many patients and their families, over his more than 40 years of practice.
He shared his love for sports with all, supporting Palmer High School, St. Mary's, and others, while participating daily in lunchtime racquetball and basketball at the downtown YMCA for more than 30 years. Later, he filled his free time traveling through Spain, Italy, and Mexico with his second wife Nona Faughnan, stepson Joshua, family, and friends or taking a quiet Sunday outing at a favorite fishing hole, sometimes not so quiet with the grandkids.
He created wonderful holiday traditions with his children and grandchildren while passing on countless family stories. He will be sadly missed by his children, Tricia Lucero-Blaikie, Teri Lucero-Hall and Stuart Hall, Toni Lucero, Tracey Lucero-Corsi and Dewayne Corsi, grandchildren Stevie Lucero, Kalyssa Hall, Morgan Hall, Taylor Corsi, Jake Corsi, and Aila Blaikie. He also leaves behind sisters and brothers, Rubena Mojica, Cleopatra Santoyo, Steve Lucero, Sandra and Leonard Alfaro, Colleen and Albert Marquez, Lottie Grove, and their many children. He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, all of whom he loved dearly.
Memorial services will be held Wednesday, March 24th, 2021, at 11 AM at St. Paul's Catholic Church, 9 El Pomar Road, Colorado Springs, Colorado.

What a great person, he was always more concerned over the patient's comfort and smile then he ever was about the money! He always made sure that you were taking care of and happy about the smile he helped give you! What a kind and loving human being! Sincerely, Todd and Sugar Bear.

So sorry to hear this. Dr. OJ was my dentist on the '70s. I will always remember his humor, his dating advice and our water fights :) I remember telling him one time that if I should die he better make sure I'm smiling so everyone could see my beautiful caps. Blessings to his family.

I've known Dr. Lucero just shy of 30 years. The thing I will remember most was his kind, gentle demeanor. I would be anxious coming into the office for dental care, but he would always smile and make me laugh, putting my nerves at ease. Dr. Lucero was a wonderful dentist who will be truly missed. This city won't be the same without him. May his family and friends find some comfort knowing that he touched the hearts and lives of so many people. He made the world a better place, one smile at a time.

Dear Tricia,Terri,Toni, and Tracey
So sorry to hear of your dads passing. Remembering the good times we all shared on Peyton Circle weather it was jumping on the trampoline, riding horses, or swimming. Uncle Orley and Aunt Sharon were so welcoming. May god wrap his arms around you all and give you comfort needed at this time. Love, Loretta and Ed

I have never met Dr. Lucero, but I know him as a very kind caring person who liked to help people. He tried to help my daughter many times, he wanted her to better herself and know that she could count on him to be there for her. He would always hire her back to help in the dentistry business. He did as much as he could for her until the very last time she came and asked for work, he just said he couldn't do it anymore. I understood, he helped as much as he could of. I appreciated him always trying to have her back. Sadly he had to say goodbye to her. I know he has his angel wings because he had such a warm loving heart. Rest in peace and now he will get to see my daughter again. Both of you rest in peace. Thank you Dr. Lucero for being a good person.
To the family: I am sorry for your loss, what a kind warm hearted man he was and I pray for peace for you.
