Orville grew up on a Kansas farm. In high school he wired the farm for electricity for the first time while his classmates were playing sports. He served honorably in the US Army as a diesel mechanic. After moving to Colorado in 1959, he was a heavy equipment and crane operator, as well as an over-the-road trucker. He was proud to be part of building and working on some of the iconic buildings in Colorado Springs including the Holly Sugar building, Antlers Hotel, Air Force Academy, and Cheyenne Mountain NORAD complex.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Betty Jane Weaver, and by a son, Kerry Lane Miller. He is survived by children: Kandis Armstrong (Thomas Paine), Tony Miller (former: Laurella Miller), Tammy Henson (Brian Henson), and Kim Robinett (Terry Robinett); by nine grandchildren; and by 11 great-grandchildren. Orville is remembered with love by his family and friends.
