Otis Testerman Obituary

Dr. Otis B. Testerman September 27, 1931 - March 28, 2006 Doctor Testerman passed away March 28th, surrounded by his family. He was known as "Doctor T", "Doc", "Otis", or "Buddy", throughout most of his life. Born in Sudan, Texas to O. W. & Alma Testerman, at an early age he felt he was called to preach. His ministry of 37 years led him to pastor six churches in Texas, Arizona and Colorado, as well as through Southern Baptist Foreign Mission assignments in 16 countries. Otis continued his ministry as senior Chaplain to the Grand Junction Police Dept. and there he spearheaded the first volunteer service agency in the department. Doctor "T" graduated from Howard Payne University in 1956 and later received his Masters in Divinity from Southwestern Theological Seminary in 1961. In 1966, he was awarded his Doctorate at Morris Booker Memorial College. Doctor "T" pastored at the Bookcliff Baptist Church in Grand Junction, Colorado for 14 years. While Pastoring in Colorado, Otis was elected President of the Colorado Baptist General Convention for two years and Parliamentarian for eight years. During this period he was a member of the executive board of the Southern Baptist General Convention for two years. Doctor "T" wrote throughout his career. Some of his authored publications include: "That You May Know", "The Steady Walk", "The Keys for Better Teaching", "Jesus and ?", "Devil, Demons and Spirits", "What Is Church Training", "Line of Duty Death", "Law Enforcement Funeral Manual", "The Prison Epistles of Paul", "Understanding The Crime and Counseling The Victims". Among his many accomplishments, Doctor "T" was recognized in "Who's Who in Religion of America", Men of Achievement from Cambridge, England, and Personalities of the West and Midwest. He enjoyed a life of hunting, oil painting, gun smithing, combat pistol shooting, custom knife making, research in his families genealogy and historical work of the Civil War and World War II. In addition to being a practiced marksman with N.R.A. Rifle and Pistol Collegiate Awards, he earned Police Expert Pistol Awards from numerous agencies, 1st Place Champion, two years, West Texas Caprock Peace Officers Association. In addition to his loving wife of 57 years, Pat; his brother, James Testerman of Shiprock, Texas; Otis is survived by three children, Jacque (Testerman) Dominguez and husband, Christopher; Gayland Testerman and wife, Jackie; Serena (Testerman) Meisenheimer and her husband Dana, all of Grand Junction; seven grandchildren, Kit and Tyler (Dominguez), Dalys, Danielle and Miles Testerman, Britt and Rhy (Meisenheimer); and three great grandchildren, Jackson, Caleb and Haley. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm, on Saturday, April 1, 2006 at First Baptist Church, 7th and Grand Avenue, Grand Junction, CO. "Finally, brethren, farewell be perfect, be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in peace; And the God of love and peace shall be with you " II Corinthians 13: 11 Arrangements are under the direction of Callahan-Edfast Mortuary.

I was so saddened to hear of Dr. Testermans passing. I have such fond memories of him. I have yet to find a church with the deep caring and closeness that he created at Bookcliff Baptist Church. I will be praying for all of you.
