Owen McGinn Obituary

Born to James J. and Mary Moylen McGinn (a homesteading family from the 1800s) at home in Boulder, Colorado, he was the youngest of 9 children with 7 brothers and 1 sister that have all preceded him in death. At one time, there were 6 McGinn boys serving in the armed services during WWII. Owen served in the Pacific on a small jeep carrier and enlisted at the age of 17.

He attended Boulder schools and graduated from "the school of hard knocks". He was a self-made man who believed in honesty, fairness, integrity, responsibility, dedication, education, and opportunity. He helped establish Commander Leasing Company, based in Broomfield, Colorado, in the 1960s and at one time owned and leased 1,000,000 sq. ft. of industrial warehousing and manufacturing plants in the Denver and Boulder areas. That business is still in existence today and is managed by his son, Michael. He developed the Eagle Trace golf course in Broomfield with a consortium of buddies from the local Rotary Club where he served as President and enrolled every one of the membership into The Paul Harris Fellows. He was a member of the Boulder Elks for over 67 years.

Owen served on the Board of The United Bank of Broomfield and was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Karen J. (Fiero); 2 children from a former marriage, Mike of Erie, Colorado, and Karen Irene of Scottsdale, Arizona; 2 step-children he helped raise, Slade Fiero of Astoria, Oregon, and Amy Fiero Budd of Elbert, Colorado; 2 beloved grandchildren, Riley Budd of Windsor, Colorado, and Sarah Budd, a senior at Colorado University; and many nieces and nephews he was very fond of.

He and his wife have lived in Colorado Springs for the past 8 years and have enjoyed wonderful neighbors, golf, and fun activities at The Garden Of The Gods Club. He enjoyed stimulating conversation, world travel, a good joke, and Irish whiskey. He will be sorely missed by all his family and friends.

Private cremation with family members celebrating a life well lived will be held at a later time.

The family requests that you make a contribution to a charity of your choice in the name of a loved one that you have lost, or to Pikes Peak Hospice and Palliative Care, 2550 Tenderfoot Hill Street, Colorado Springs, CO 80906.
