Born June 30, 1947, Wichita Falls, Texas died January 30, 2024, in Colorado Springs, Colorado
Caring wife, loving mother, doting grandmother, and loyal friend
Born to Ernest and Norma Friend, the eldest of three children, Ann grew up in Spring Branch in the Houston, Texas area. Ann met the love of her life, John, on a blind date in 1964. They married in 1968 after John came home from serving in the Marines in Vietnam.
As a college student, Ann housed at the Scottish Rite Dormitory at The University of Texas at Austin where she received a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics and Sociology. Ann was an avid and loyal Texas Longhorns fan throughout her lifetime.
A loving and kind woman, Ann made friends with everyone she met. She was a devoted leader of Girl Scout Troop 493. Ann and John also founded and led the Girl Scout backpacking group called Trail Mix for 10 years. Ann worked in accounting with various major petroleum and electrical corporations during her career in Houston. Ann and John lived in and raised their two children in Jersey Village, TX for 25 years.
After retirement, they relocated to Colorado Springs, Colorado to be closer to their family. Working part-time for various home builders in the area, Ann never met a stranger, and became friends with many clients. Ann was active in the Red Hat Society, enjoyed bunco game nights, hosting tea parties, and crafting with friends.
Ann is survived in death by her husband of 56 years, John; daughter Karen (Yancey) McCauley of Silver City, NM; son Jeremy (Jenny) Bergeron of Colorado Springs; grandchildren Mariah, Ethan, and Ashley; as well as her brother David (Jackie) Friend of Austin, TX; and sister Sue Derrick of Lancaster, SC.
Ann is preceded in death by her parents.
