Patricia Drury Obituary

Patricia Lois Martin Drury was born on December 28, 1933 in Valentine, Nebraska and spent her childhood in Ness City, Kansas. She graduated from Ness City High School where she played on the basketball team, was a member of the National Honor Society, and listed in Who's Who of Kansas. She graduated from the Colorado Women's College and received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music Education and Piano from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 1955, where she was a member of Alpha Omega Pi sorority. Upon graduation she married the love of her life, Nolan Drury, to whom she was married for 55 years. She taught elementary music in many cities throughout the south prior to moving to Colorado Springs in 1960, buying Howdy Pard Restaurant, the first drive-in with a speaker system west of the Mississippi River. She resumed teaching with the Fountain Fort Carson school district for 17 years before retiring in 1990. Pat was an avid traveler, bridge player, and member of First Presbyterian Church. She was also a member of Cheyenne Mountain Republican Forum and the Pioneers Museum. She is survived by her husband Nolan and two daughters, Cindy Riddle and Nancy Ryan, both of Denver; their husbands John Riddle and Joel Ryan, and five grandsons, John Nolan Riddle, Jordan Riddle, Joshua Riddle, James Ryan, and David Ryan, all of whom she was very proud and loved very much. She is also survived by her sister, Joan Agee of Colorado Springs, and many wonderful nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Gladys and Jack Martin of Colorado Springs. She lived each day with a smile and fought her battle with pancreatic cancer with virtually no pain and true peace from God. She longed to live with Jesus, who graciously entered her into His kingdom on February 27 with her husband holding her hand and her family at her side. Her memorial service will be March 11 at 11:00 am at First Presbyterian Church. Condolences may be sent to Nolan Drury, c/o Nancy Ryan, 16196 East Progress Place, Centennial, CO 80015. Memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 219 E. Bijou St, Colorado Springs, CO 80903.

Dear Nolan,

Love and prayers for you at this time of tears and longing in your life.

I remember when you and Pat stood on the church corner in 1978 and prayed with me and my daughters, Lisa and Kim. I needed a job and had been searching for for 1 1/2 years. Pat had such optimism! And I had a job Monday morning as a teacher in Harrison Dist #2. Thank you for that prayers and your continued friendship through the years! I can just see Pat smiling and making her way through her hew home in heaven. Someday we will join her, that I know.

Love, Pam Steele

Dear Mr Drury, Nancy, Cindy and families,

I am so sorry for your great loss. I have such wonderful memories of your Mom from our growing up days in Skyway. It seems like our families lives were so connected from Skyway Elementary, to First Presbyterian Church, to Republican politics, to Young Life. Now, very sadly, pancreatic cancer. I will always remember your Mom for her kindness, her sweet spirit and her strong faith in our Lord. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Sincerely,

Christy Espinoza

She was my favorite teacher in Elementary School. I will always remember the Popcorn dance, Amos Moses and square dancing, but most of all, the memories of all of us singing Pumpkin Carols in the Library from It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown and singing Christmas Carols by her silver Christmas tree. I so looked forward to her music class. She had such a love for music and for life itself, that showed through every day at school. I consider myself blessed for knowing her and for being one of her students. I wish my children could have had her as a teacher. She was and will continue to be a very positive influence in my life.
