Patricia Steffens Obituary

Steffens
Patricia "Pat" Kay
(Noxon ) Steffens
November 22, 1946
May 25, 2025

Patricia Steffens (78) passed away on May 25, 2025, at her home in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Pat was a proud Colorado native, educator, professional, and committed volunteer.

She was a Wasson Thunderbird, later putting herself through the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, earning a B.A. in education. Pat spent much of her working life as a high school history teacher. After a mid-career stint as a human-resources professional, she returned to public education at Ivywild Elementary (You can now lift a pint to Pat in the same room where she was hugged by kindergartners each morning.)

Pat loved people, birds, and the Colorado outdoors. She was a dedicated volunteer, lending her time and talents to several local organizations. She was a certified and committed Stephen Minister who enjoyed offering support to others. On weekends, she often hiked into the mountains to count hawks, falcons, and eagles with the CPW's Raptor Monitoring Volunteer Program. She also helped guests at the Cheyenne Cañon visitor center, where she once gave Kevin Bacon hiking advice without devolving into starstruck fandom.

A die-hard theatre fan, Pat frequently enjoyed local performances and was known to brave questionable weather to see the latest Broadway show touring Denver. She possessed a wealth of knowledge on Colorado history and was interested in world history. She and her late husband, Rick, enjoyed Native American art and artists, often traveling to Santa Fe, New Mexico, to visit galleries and do a little shopping "under the portico." Rick shared Pat's passion for the outdoors and for Tex-Mex, margaritas, and movies. They were avid, long-suffering Bronco fans.

Pat was the mother of two children, Chris Ross and Kimberly Ross, and stepmother to Kari Sanderson, Monica Gover, Todd Steffens, and Bryan Steffens. In addition to her husband, Pat was predeceased by her brother, Ron Noxon, and her stepson, David Steffens. Pat and Rick are survived by fifteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on August 1st at 10 a.m. at Pat's church, the First Congregational Church of Colorado Springs. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes memorial donations to the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region (https://www.hsppr.org/). Those attending the service are asked to eschew black clothing. Pat was a vibrant and colorful woman, so it's fitting that her celebration of life be equally vibrant and colorful.

I met Pat when she was my admin asst. in education in public schools. She was the BEST! And so perfect for greeting parents, visitors and tending to our students. Over the years, we became close friends and had lunches, shopped, talked about everything under the sun. I know her love for New Mexico and the arts and would bring me a gift now and then from her visit.
I´m shocked to hear of her passing and sad. She was the kindest and sweetest person to be around. Her candor was refreshing. Now she is with Rick again and they are visiting new places and with her furbabies.
Miss you Pat!

I had the pleasure of meeting Pat
last year while I was visiting my Aunt who was Pat´s neighbor and good friend for many years. I enjoyed our time talking in her very lovely home. I had heard many things about Pat from my Aunt over the years, times and places they spent together, and what a very good friend she felt fortunate to have. She was interesting and seemed so kind hearted. When I read Pats obituary, I learned alot about her and all of her accomplishments and joys of her life. Of course she was a volunteer, her spirit alone shone with the bright light of a caring and especially kind woman immediately, the kind of person others are naturally drawn to, and I´m sure she had many long term friends.
I was so sad to hear of her passing , and offer my condolences to her family, friends , and all the people in her life who loved her , especially her children.

I am so sorry to see Pat's passing. Our husbands were great friends from the Broadmoor Golf course Starter/Marshall program. Many an afternoon was spent with the boys playing poker at our house. Pat was so sweet and I am sorry to see her passing. Linda Shields
