Patricia Tiemens Obituary

Patricia "Pat" Tiemens passed away at her home in Colorado Springs on the morning of February 16, 2017. Pat was born to Lloyd and Helen Morehead on August 30, 1934 in Akron, Iowa. She was the oldest of three children. She met Robert Tiemens from Archer, Iowa when both were freshmen at Morningside College in Sioux City. They were married on June 10, 1956. She graduated from Morningside College in 1957 and moved to West Liberty, Iowa with her husband where Pat taught high school business classes, and financed graduate school for her husband at the University of Iowa.

After her career as a teacher, Pat became a full-time mother and homemaker to two children. When the family moved to Salt Lake City, Utah she held a number of staff positions as a secretary and administrator at the University of Utah, from which she retired in 2000. She and her husband moved to Colorado Springs in the autumn of 2009.

Pat had a love for animals, gardening, and sewing. She had a warm smile, beautiful blue eyes, and a deep love for her family.

In addition to her husband, Pat is survived by two daughters, Robin Tiemens of Colorado Springs and Jill Tiemens of Tempe, Arizona; and three grandchildren: Melissa Saliba (Joe) and Kevin Chan of Colorado Springs, and Sara Smith of Tempe, AZ. She is also survived by her sister, Pamela Karp of Iowa City, IA. Pat was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother, Keith.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family suggests donations to the Alzheimer's Foundation (alz.org).

Bob:
cannot express my feelings on the passing of a very dear friend. We had such good times over the years at the University and in retirement.

I will miss her and only wish we had been able to see each other over the last few years.

Bob:

Words cannot express my sadness at Pats passing.

She was a true friend and we shared so many things over the years. I regret that we could not have spent more time together in the last
couple of years.

Pat was a special and favorite aunt. She had a way of looking at you that assured you she was genuinely interested in what you were saying and that she cared about you. Her love was unconditional. I will always carry fond memories of lots of laughter - especially when playing games with her daughters and nieces - and her sensitive, thoughtful, generous, and beautiful spirit. Love to you all, Bob, Robin, and Jill and grandkids.

Bob ("T") was my graduate advisor many years ago and Pat was asked to welcome me and my graduate student colleagues for many a dinner at the Tiemens' home. She was always a gracious and welcoming hostess and I remember her fondly for her kindness toward me and my fellow graduate students. I also appreciated the harmonic silver bells that personified their family for many Christmas holdidays.

Dear Bob, I was pleased to see the picture of your sweet wife, Pat. I recall many years when we came to your home for a visit.

Your kindness, integrity, thoughtfulness and leadership greatly affected and benefitted me while at the U of U. I learned much about these qualities from you to assist me as I left for Mayo Clinic back in 86. I think of you as one of my most cherished colleagues.

I do hope you are doing well. I retired from Mayo in 2007 and in 2012 we moved back to Sandy, Utah. I have been back to the U - Department of Communications, College of Health, and Communication Disorders. Interesting, I met not one soul who remembered me or whom I remembered. Such is professional life. We however have special memories of our colleagues and students. Worth remembering. I see Marv Hanson on occasion and Geary McCandless passed away in January. Take care, Martin
