PATRICIA WOODWARD Obituary

Patricia Oury Woodward went peacefully to be with her Lord Jesus on Saturday October 25, 2014 surrounded by her family in Williams Bay, WI. Born August 27, 1941 to Ralph M. Oury and Dorothy E. Raines, Patty spent most of her life in Wheaton, IL. She is preceded in death by both of her parents, her husband John S. Woodward Jr., her daughter Dawn E. Woodward and a brother Mark K. Oury. Patty is a graduate of Wheaton Community High School where she was involved in a variety of activities. After high school she studied abroad in Switzerland where she enjoyed skiing. In 1964 she married her long time Wheaton friend and as young newlyweds John attended law school and Patty stayed active in Junior Women's Club, writing for the Central DuPage Hospital Newsletter and doing volunteer work. As a couple they shared the joy of playing golf, bridge, cards and bowling together prior to starting a family. Patricia is survived by her three children, Didi (Kevin) Lichtenebert of Geneva, IL, John S. (Elizabeth) Woodward III of Westminster, CO and Suzanne Woodward of Aurora, IL. She has four beautiful grandchildren, Bradley, Nathan, Annabel and John-Paul. Patty raised her four children as a single parent and devoted her time to balancing work and all of her children's various needs and activities. She enjoyed her daily devotionals and women's Bible studies for strength and guidance. Weekends were spent as a family going to church, feeding the ducks, swimming at the pool and drive in movies. Patricia is also survived by her Step-Mother Sharon Oury of Williams Bay, WI and five siblings, Michael (Susan) Oury of Wheaton, IL, Timi (Mike) Lake of Eustis, FL, Joey Oury of Batavia, IL, Stephanie (Jeff) Lietz of St. Charles, IL and Kerry (Michael) Sandberg of Lake Geneva, WI in addition to an abundance of cousins. Patty treasured time with her many nieces and nephews, all who held a special place in her heart. Patricia moved to Williams Bay, WI just two years ago where she had fond memories of Visiting Lake Lawn Resort with her dad, attending Bible Camp and visiting Lake Geneva Resort with her husband. She had the gift of being able to start up a conversation about anything with anyone. She was a woman if strong faith, believed in the power of prayer and took delight in sharing the Gospel. In lieu of flowers please send donations to Mount Zion Christian School in Lake Geneva. Please join Patty's family and friends in celebrating her life on Saturday November 8, 2014. Visitation at 10:00 a.m. with a service at 11:00 a.m. with a luncheon to follow at Calvary Community Church Hwy 50 and Harris Road, Williams Bay, WI. Derrick Funeral Home and Cremation Services is assisting the Woodward family with arrangements. To sign the on-line guest registry go to www.derrickfuneralhome.com.

So many fond memories of Aunt Patty and growing up around her, her home, and her children (my wonderful cousins). A stronger woman with a more positive attitude I have never met! I know you are in heaven now ~ whole again ~ smiling down upon everyone ... reunited with Dawn, Grandma, Granddad, Uncle John, and Uncle Mark.
So much love to you!

Sister Patty provided many wonderful holiday memories for all of us young and old gathered in her home. A fire would be burning in the fireplace and good food all around. Family would be on couches and floors, sitting around tables catching up and enjoying being together. My favorite photos of my (at that time) young nieces and nephews were taken in her home. Those sweet little faces all in a row. Now, I imagine Patty's face when she opened her eyes in heaven after closing them here for the last time. I'm sure she laughed and ran straight for Jesus as Dawn got there at the same time. She kept the peace of Jesus as she waited to get the "Come on home" invitation. Well done, Sis!
Love, Stephanie
