Paul Hudson Obituary

Paul Hudson passed away peacefully at Pikes Peak Hospice on March 28, 2011, surrounded by children and grandchildren at the age of 90. He was born in Falls City, Nebraska on August 19, 1920 to Harvey and Editha Hudson and was the youngest of 6 children. On June 7, 1942, he married of the love of his life, Lorene Bowhay. Paul graduated from Dawson High School in 1938 and enjoyed being the Master of Ceremonies at many high school reunions. During World War II, he was a flight engineer on B-17 airplanes in the Army Air Corp (later renamed Air Force). After the war, he began a career of over 39 years with Gooch Milling & Elevator Company (now a part of Archer Daniels Midland) in Lincoln, Nebraska retiring in 1983 as Superintendent and Miller. He loved the mountains and brought his family to Colorado almost every summer. After he retired, he and Lorene moved to Colorado Springs. However, he did miss attending the University of Nebraska football games. Paul was a Master Mason and served as the Grand Master of Lincoln Lodge No. 19 in Lincoln, Nebraska. As a Shriner, he enjoyed performing as part of the Foot Patrol and was involved with many of the charitable activities. He was a very active man who enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, water skiing, and snow skiing. Paul and Lorene spent 5 years traveling around North America in their RV. He water skied and snow skied with his children and grandchildren until the age of 79. He enjoyed a regular round of golf and played pool with friends through most of his 80's. His children and grandchildren have fond memories of seeing him attend their many sporting events, recitals, and concerts. He appreciated the companionship of many friends at the Village and enjoyed playing the drums and singing with the Village Voices. The Palisades became his final home where he enjoyed the Men's Group, Lunch Outings, Scenic Drives and great conversations with fellow residents and staff members. He will also be fondly remembered by his many friends and former colleagues in Nebraska. Paul is survived by a loving family; wife, Lorene, children Dennis Hudson (wife, Laine Jones) of Castle Rock, Jean Koch (husband, Bill) of Colorado Springs, Nancy Marts (husband, Rick) of Colorado Springs, 6 grandchildren, Casey Hudson, Michael Hudson, Trenton Koch, Justin Koch, Brian Marts, Nicole Hawke, and 10 great-grandchildren. Services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday at The Palisades at Broadmoor Park, 4547 Palisades Park View.
