Paul Muuss Obituary
Command Sergeant Major Paul William Muuss III passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on October 20, 2007 in Fountain, Colorado at the age of 70. He was born on May 21, 1937 in Chicago, Illinois, the only child to Paul Jr. and Emily Muuss. Paul proudly served in the U.S. Army for 30 years. He served in Post War Korea and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He served as the senior non-commissioned officer in several units and taught at West Point Military Academy as well as the Sergeant Major's Academy in El Paso, Texas. Towards the end of his military career, Paul served as Commandant at the USAREUR/7th Army Academy in Bad Tolz. Paul spent many hours mentoring young soldiers and ended his career at Fort Carson military post. Paul served local businesses as a sales manager and later a sales representative for Vernon, Inc. In retirement, he was extremely active in the local community. Paul served on City Council in Fountain and sat on the El Paso County Board of Adjustment, PPACG and Restoration committees. He remained very active in the community, standing up for tax payers' rights, looking up for senior citizens and low income people right up until his death. Paul and his beloved wife Rosa spent many memorable days together traveling cross country in their motor home, visiting family and friends from their many years in the military, and thoroughly enjoying their retirement. They traveled to Europe and to Germany, the country where they met and were married, visiting family and friends. Paul and Rosa most recently and very proudly celebrated their 50 wedding anniversary. Paul is survived by his beloved wife, Rosa Muuss, his four devoted children, Herbert Sossau (of Switzerland, Germany), Sonja Romero (of Santa Rosa, California), Paul Muuss, of Chicago Illinois), Sherry Courter (of Sonoma, California) and his five beloved grandchildren, Nicholas Kersmarki (of Santa Rosa, California), Kristopher Kersmarki (of Santa Rosa, California), Sara Courter (of Glen Ellen, California), Alexis Muuss (of Schaumberg, Illinois) and Madeline Muuss (of Schaumberg, Illinois). Paul was a husband, father, soldier and grandpappy. He was extremely patriotic and loyal to his country, devoting most of his young life to the U.S. Army. This devoted husband and loving father and grandfather will continue to live vibrantly and chuckle deeply in the hearts of the many whom adored him. Undeniably a "people person," and a diehard Cubs fan, a person who was the embodiment of strength, Paul will be remembered by his family and friends as the man who was larger than life. There will be a Rosary Service held on Thursday 7:00 PM at Evergreen Funeral Home in Colorado Springs. There will be a full military service at Ft. Carson Military Post at the Soldiers Memorial Chapel Friday 1:30 PM in honor of Paul's wonderful life and extraordinary military career. It is recommended that those who attend the funeral use Gate One.
