Paul Staub Obituary

Paul F. Staub, 50, of Erie, died Christmas Day with his loving wife at his side. He was born in Erie on January 22, 1963, a son of the late Paul and Audrey Lang Staub Knickerbocker.

Paul graduated from Harbor Creek High School in 1981 and was one of the two people who started the band "Damien Steele" in the early 1980's. In December 1993 after a work related accident Paul became a quadriplegic but with his inner strength he persevered. He mentored youths in the Millcreek area in music and later formed what he called his "Girl Fund" to help young women to continue their education in college. He always believed women should be strong and independent. Paul lived his life loving and caring for others and never allowed his disability to define him.

Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Nancy Lynch Staub; one daughter, Cassie Lynn Staub of Pittsburgh; two brothers, David Staub and his wife, Raquel of Glendale, Calif. and Larry Knickerbocker of Syracuse, N.Y.; three sisters, Mary Staub DiSantos Rose and her husband, Larry of Erie, Dianne Cerutti and her husband, Gil of Minden, Nev., and Linda Peterson of Berea, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Rd., on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., with a time of sharing at 1:30 p.m., and 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family in Mary Queen of Peace Cemetery.

Memorial contributions can be made to a charity of one's choice.

My deepest sympathies, I live out of state and didn't see this until now and I'm really sadden by this. Paul was a good friend from school, he was always kind and thoughtful and fun to be around. Lost touch,of course, but I remember talking with him at a reunion one time and the boy I knew grew into a man. I'm very glad we had that chance to reminisce and to catch up on our current lives at the time. Be at peace Paul you are definitely by the Lord's side.

My deepest sympathy. Paul was a good giving man. I will never forget how he overcame and helped others. He rescued my family one day, I watched him in amazement, (wanting to help - but he wouldn't let us)as he maneuvered himself in his van to get us safely home. Thank you Paul!

Nancy and Cassie,
Those we love remain with us for love itself lives on, and cherished memories never fade because a loved one's gone. Those we love can never be more that a thought apart. For as long there is a memory, they'll live on in our hearts. - Author Unknown
