Paula Ragan Obituary

Paula Ragan passed away in her daughters arms 12 October 2009. Paula was born in Whiteriver, AZ to the late Ralph and Lillian Fish. She spent much of her life in Colorado and graduated from CU Boulder before she joined the Navy and saw the world. Paula was a true patriot who served her country and rose to the rank of Lieutnant before she was honorably discharged and married Capt. Charles Ragan, USN. Paula had two daughters, Elizabeth and Victoria, two brothers, Jack and James and a host of loving nieces, nephews, sister in laws and cousins. She had fantastic memories of hiking Mount Fuji while stationed in Japan and going to glamorous state events in Europe while in the Navy. She was stationed in Italy and remembered wading barefoot in the Trevi Fountain. She was a remarkable, strong lady. An open house in her memory will be held at 2430 Great Sky Road on Sunday, October 18th from 1:00 to 3:00. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the local Native American charity One Nation on 45 Commerce St., Colorado Springs, CO.

Unfortunately our paths did not cross very often. I wish they had. I did keep her high school graduation picture handy and often showed it to friends. I felt fortunate to have such a good looking cousin. I'm sure I would have been blessed to have known her better.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire family. I work with one of Paula's daughters, Tori, and her sense of humor brings a smile to my face on a daily basis. I can only assume Paula passed her sense of humor along.

I will always remember Paula for her determination to be her own person.Aunt Lil used to tell her in no uncertain terms of the fate awaiting her if Paula did not mend her ways. The advice fell on deaf ears and Paula went on to forge a very successful career and become a good mother as well. She was a fine person and will be missed by all who knew her.Cousin Tom.

I will always remember my sister appearing in the headlines of Stars & Stripes newspaper when I was in the Army in Germany in 1961 ... Headline read "Only Girl in the 7th Fleet". Of course at that time she was working for Admiral Griffin and was the "only girl in the 7th fleet." Another memory, at that time my parents were in Afganistan (dad worked for the State Departmen AID program), my brother was in Boulder, Co. I was in Germany, and she was in Japan. If the world were a cube, my family might have been on four of the corners. She was a truly wonderful sister. Jim Fish

To the Ragan family, I was so sorry to learn of your loss. Word has spread at least as far as Florida. My sincere condolences, your Rider cousin, Mary Giera
