Peet Heuberger Obituary

Heuberger
Peet Hans Heuberger
November 23, 1933 - April 28, 2018
Peet Hans Heuberger passed away in the comfort of his home on Saturday, April 28, 2018. Born on November 23, 1933 in Bern, Switzerland, Peet lived in Switzerland until 1956 when he immigrated to the United States. He made his way across the U.S. landing in Denver, Colorado. He started work at Mountain States Volkswagen where he met his wife Carolyn. They eloped in 1957 and were married for 60 years.
As a young man, Peet loved cars and racing in Europe. His racing career gave him a knowledge of cars and repairs that led to his success in the automotive industry in the U.S. He worked for his father-in-law, Will McConnell until 1970 when he was able to open his own Volkswagen Dealership in Colorado Springs. He opened the Subaru franchise in 1975 and from there he built a family dealership, which continues to this day as a family business. He was always proud of his employees and valued all the customers he served.
Peet was an accomplished sailor. He loved to sail and spent as much time as he could taking his friends sailing. His favorite trip was sailing from San Diego to Hawaii with his cousin, Rolf and friend, R.G. Dallman. He sailed his whole life and loved the adventure of it. Peet loved the opera and as a boy, he went to the theater with his parents and enjoyed listening to opera as often as he could.
Peet was a generous and kind man, always willing to work hard and give to others. He and Carolyn were philanthropic to their causes in life. He naturalized in 1990 and was proud to be an American citizen. He was always speaking up on politics and religion. One could debate with him for hours on any number of subjects. He will be missed by many.
Peet was preceded in death by his wife Carolyn and his parents Hans and Hilda Heuberger; sisters, Hiedi Petrillo and Hilja Hurfurth. He is survived by his children, son, Gunnar (Sherri) Heuberger and daughter, Heather Heuberger; 3 grandchildren, Skyler Short (Kim), Savanna Guffy (Marshall), Joshua Eberly; 2 great-grandchildren, Jackson Guffy and Mason Guffy all of Colorado Springs. His brothers-in-law, Wright McConnell of Polson, Montana and Michael McConnell of Denver, Colorado.
In lieu of flowers, the Heuberger family suggests listening or going to an opera in memory of Peet.

Pete was an amazing man. He was one of the first people I had met after I retired from the military. He took me under his wing, and helped me tremendously. He taught me so much about life. Peet, I am proud to have been your friend.

Was sorry to read of the passing of your parents this morning. Shall always remember your mother's paintings of her cats and your father's wonderful laugh and smile and love of sailing. The torch has been passed on to you to tell the stories of their lives and to keep them alive in the hearts of others. You will do a fine job. Bless you in this endeavor and your journey forward in this life.

Dear Heather and Gunner,
You probably don't remember me but I lived next door to you on Ash Street in Denver. You two were very young and adorable. I was 17 when I first met your mom and dad and it was love at first site. I thought they were (and they were) the coolest couple I had ever met. As happens in life all of us moved on but I never forgot your wonderful, beautiful parents. They made an impression on everyone they met. Fond memories of all. Warm Regards, Pattie Lockard

Dear Heather and Gunner,
I can still hear your dad's booming voice singing a few notes that echo in my heart. Your mom and dad were so guileless, kind and generous. They are the reason I live in this beautiful city and I'm forever grateful that their mark fell upon my life in all the most beautiful ways. My most sincere condolences to you both and your family and friend who were so well served by this beautiful couple. They set the bar impossibly high.

Without a doubt, Peet was a gentleman and class act. I worked for him in 1971-72 and have fond memories of his sincerity in serving his customers and employees. He was a very successful businessman and mentored his son Gunnar to continue managing their family business in the same manner. I will miss the occasional lunch get togethers with Peet.

We are long time customers of Heuberger Subaru. On one occasion we met Peet and his wife. The meeting was like we were long time, old friends, this was the only time we met. Its no mystery why Heuberger is such a successful dealership.

Peet, you will truly be missed by many! These last almost 12 years of working at Heuberger Motors has been a blessing. You always came in with a smile on your face and made everyone feel welcome. I am going to miss your humor. You made working for Heuberger Motors a pleasure and I thank you for that!! I'm really going to miss you.
