Peggy Gieringer Obituary

A longtime resident of Colorado Springs, Peggy Schantz Gieringer was born in Orrville, Ohio on August 5, 1938. Her parents, Paul Stender and Beatrice Alleman Schantz, were part of the family-owned business, the Schantz Organ Company. Peggy attended Orrville High School and graduated from Ohio State University with a Masters in Social Work in 1962. She and her husband, Gary, lived in San Antonio and Amarillo, Texas from 1963-1966, while Gary served in the U.S. Air Force. They then settled in Colorado Springs, where Peggy enjoyed raising her children and becoming involved in the community for over 44 years. Peggy was active in her children's schools, church and other civic activities. She volunteered with the Colorado Springs Symphony Guild, Special Olympics, and the Colorado Fine Arts Center. An avid and passionate tennis player, Peggy competed for more than 30 years locally and played at the U.S. Open in 1987. Peggy is survived by her husband, Dr. Gary V. Gieringer; children, Anneliese Gieringer, Grant Gieringer, Christiana "Kippy" Gieringer Christenson; and five grandchildren.
