Philip Frantz Obituary

The Reverend Philip Scott Frantz Jr. went home to Jesus on February 2nd, 2014. He was born to Philip and Helen Frantz in La Junta, CO on April 24, 1923.

Scott graduated from Colorado Springs High School in 1941. After completing 2 years at School of Mines, Scott enlisted in the Army Air Corps. He served on B-29s until he was discharged in 1946. His wartime experiences influenced Scott to enter the ministry. He completed his BA at Colorado College and entered the Episcopal Theological Seminary in Cambridge Mass., where he met and married the love of his life, Betty. They enjoyed 56 years together.

Fr. Scott began his clerical ministry as the Chaplain to Colorado College. He was also instrumental in establishing two new Episcopal Parishes in Colorado Springs; Church of the Holy Spirit and The Chapel of Our Saviour. He was called to be Rector at Christ Church Lima in Ohio, and returned to Colorado in 1976. He served for a short time back at Church of the Holy Spirit, and finished his career as Rector of St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Manitou Springs. Fr. Scott was very active in both Colorado Cursillo and Kairos.

Fr. Scott enjoyed hiking and camping throughout the west. He was preceded in death by his daughter Gretchen, brother Bob, and wife Betty. He is survived by son Scott and his wife Vicky, and his two grandchildren Wyatt and Olivia.

Services will be at 10:30 AM, Friday February 21, at the Chapel of Our Saviour, 8 4th St, Colorado Springs, CO. A reception will follow in the Parish Hall.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Andrews Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 466, Manitou Springs, CO, 80829.

Father Scott was an inspiration, a true man of God unlike any I have ever met. He is the first priest I remember, and holds a dear and special place in my heart. He glowed with the presence of the Lord. I will remember him always as a kins, gentle, loving man, who always had time for a confused young boy. Father Scott... i look forward to seeing you again when Christ calls me home. Until then.

Father Scott will be remembered by his love, gentleness and kindness to all he came into contact with. He truly represented what a Godly man is. I was blessed that he baptized all three of my sons, he was there for me when my parents J B Coats and Helen Wilson Coats went to be with Our Lord and counseled me on so many many things and issues...he was ALWAYS there. I moved away but cam e back home a couple years ago to Castle Rock and my eldest son and I went to church...Father Scott was there and we were so happy to be reunited, even for a short and brief time. He will be missed by many!
We join with the Frantz family in you loss and your joy that he will be reunited with his beloved Betty.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you

A godly man he was!!! He will be missed by many. Those who were fortunate to know him will remember him only with love. His kindness, gentleness and loving spirit will live on in all of us. I was blessed to have him baptize all three of my sons. He was there for me when my parents, J Blood Coats and Helen E Wilson Coats went home to Our Lord. He was also a loving and wonderful shepherd and friend to our dear Evelyn Davern until she also went home. My prayers, sympathy and joy of his now being reunited with his beloved Betty are with the Frantz family. Susan Coats Seabolt
