Philip Long Obituary

Philip Scott Long, born on August 18, 1977 in Colorado Springs, son of Scott Long and Jean (Everly) Long, passed away peacefully in Denver on September 2, 2016.

Philip grew up with a love for hockey. Playing in the Pikes Peak Amateur Hockey Association from the age of six, he traveled and played throughout the Rocky Mountain Region. He continued playing hockey throughout his high school years at Cheyenne Mountain, proudly wearing his #10 jersey, the same number that his father wore when playing for the Indians. Philip graduated from Cheyenne in 1996.

Philip attended the University of Colorado in Boulder where he made life-long friendships, graduating with a Bachelor's Degree in both Finance and Accounting. He was an avid CU Buffs fan and never wavered in his devotion to the team. Upon graduation Philip went to work as a financial auditor for Cable Audit and later was the controller for Athletic Ventures, Inc. Philip loved the outdoors. With his friends, he hiked trails in Colorado and Alaska, climbed 14ers and enjoyed the family cabin at Twelve Mile. While born of the mountains, he also loved the ocean spending many memorable times in California and Hawaii.

Philip's close friends could always count on his steadfast moral support, urging them to follow their dreams and wishing them success and happiness. Philip will be remembered as a man of character, intelligence and kindness who deeply loved his family and friends, holding a particularly special place in his heart for cousin Sammy.

Philip is survived by his parents, sister Kristin, wife Tanya, stepchildren Ian and Madison, as well as many loving uncles, aunts, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Gran-Phil, Gran-Gin and Big G.

A celebration of life is planned for family and friends. Donations may be made to a charity near and dear to Philip's heart: Small Champions, P.O. Box 4691, Vail, Colorado 81658-4691, www.smallchampions.com

It´s been 8 years. Still, not a day goes by without thinking about Phil. He was practically a second father to me. Though he wasn´t able to be here to see the woman I am today, I truly hope he knows that I´ve followed everything he encouraged me to do. Phil was a kind heart, a shoulder to cry on, and a motivator unlike any other. Wherever he is, I truly hope he´s doing everything he loves, and I hope he knows how much of an impact he´s made on many people including myself.

I am saddened to hear of Phil's passing. Phil played on a hockey team I coached. Great kid, worked hard, and loved the game. RIP Phil, too young too soon.

I just learned of Phil's passing myself. I knew Phil and high school and the terms *kind and generous* are accurate. Rest in peace Phil.

I just became aware of Philip's passing and am truly saddened. I played hockey with Phil for many years and he was always a kind, caring and generous guy. I have fond memories of growing up together and I pray for him and his family.

Wow, I was just shocked to see this. Our families have known each other since our Dads' were friends at Cheyenne all those years ago, though we lost touch with the passage of time. Phil, you were a hell of a hockey player and and an all-around good guy. RIP, I know you are playing hockey wherever you are. Prayers to your family and friends.
