Philip Stone Obituary

Stone
PHILIP "PHIL" E STONE
August 3, 1950 September 23, 2020
Phil was born to Victor and Margot Stone on 8/3/1950 in Fowler Colorado. He passed away unexpectedly in his sleep on 9/23/20. He was a graduate of Fowler HS before moving on to CU Boulder and the medical center in Denver to obtain his BS in Physical Therapy and certificate in Athletic training in 1973. He did a brief sojourn in Hiawatha KS before taking a job at in the Athletic Department as an athletic trainer at USAFA. He took a brief leave of absence to complete a Masters degree in Physical Therapy at the University of Wisconsin - Madison in 1980. It was there he met his wife of 39 yrs, Mary Kay. They married on May 30, 1981. Phil spent the better part of four decades at The Academy and retired 8/3/2012. Prior to his retirement, he was active in the American Physical Therapy Assoc and served on the CU Physical Therapy Alumni Board.
Phil enjoyed reading, listening to classical music, sports, and traveling. During the pandemic lockdown, he and Mary Kay often discussed how lucky they were to have been able to see many parts of the world and learn about new cultures. The only continent not visited was Antarctica. He never took himself too seriously, had a quick wit, and was a fun loving guy who enjoyed a good beer and a big hug. He will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Kay, sister Helen Stone of Boulder, sister-in-law Ann (Bill) Mikyska of Wisconsin, and nephew Aaron Crooks of Phoenix. He was predeceased by his parents Victor and Maragot Stone, and a sister Esther Crooks.
Per his preplanned wishes, his body was donated to science, and his choice was for no memorial service. In his memory, give someone you love a nice big hug. If you wish to make a donation in his honor, please chose your favorite charity or consider the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo at cmzoo.org.

I knew Phil by serving on the CUPT Alumni Association Board with him. He drove from Colorado Springs to Denver to attend our meetings and it was such a pleasure to know him . He always was supportive of Alumni / Student activities and had such a positive outlook for our Association. We will truly miss him. Rest In Peace Phil.
