Philip Troup, age 78, passed away on March 22, 2024 in Rolla, Missouri. He lived in Colorado Springs from 1984 till 2023. Phil was born in Algona, Iowa on November 21, 1945 and is survived by his wife, Sara, three children, eight grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren.
Phil grew up with two siblings and graduated from Merrillville High School in Merrillville, Indiana. As a young adult, he worked in the steel mills near Gary, Indiana and ended up attending Purdue University for a short time where he met his future wife of 57 years, Sara. Phil worked as an Electrical Engineer and eventually managed one of AVX Corporation's most profitable facilities located in Colorado Springs until he retired in 2012.
Phil was an avid long distance runner and participated in the Pikes Peak Marathon, the Skylon Marathon in Niagara Falls, the Pittsburg, PA Marathon, and many other 10 kilometer races such as the world famous Bolder Boulder. He also enjoyed hiking in the mountains, listening to loud rock 'n roll, and building and fixing things, including building his own home outside Lafayette, Indiana in 1975 and a small cabin on his land he briefly owned near Fairplay. He even took on snow skiing for a few years. He greatly enjoyed cooking for large gatherings of family and friends such as Air Force Academy football tailgates, family reunions, and an occasional "shrimp boil".
