Missing you everyday!
Phillip Vincent Kenny
August 19, 1932-August 2, 2018
Phillip Vincent Kenny died on August 2, 2018 with his family by his side. He was a loving father and during the 22 years he was married to Joan Carter, created a home that helped his children, Michael and Rhonda, to thrive. Our dad carried family close to his heart including Michael's partner Alison and Rhonda's husband Jeff. He never failed to support his grandsons Josh (and Crystal) and Logan (and Ashley) in their life journeys.
Phil was a resilient man who faced economic and family challenges early in his life in Kansas and Seattle and emerged with compassion and fortitude. To his delight, his niece and the family genealogist Ellie Perry, reached across decades to aid in reuniting long estranged family members. His mother Gladys, and brothers Tom and Jackie preceded him in death.
He was a voracious reader and autodidact who valued critical thinking. A feisty bit of Irish was ever present when he turned a phrase or engaged in spirited political discussions and throughout the years when he was a prolific letter writer to the Gazette. Phil worked for Boeing in the 50's and served his country in the USAF for 26 years with tours in Viet Nam and Belgium. After retiring from the Air Force he worked at Ford Aerospace and then enjoyed over 15 years as a marshal at Peterson Field Golf Course and as the steady hand with Frank Patton at Frankie's Bar and Grill.
Our dad leaves a leaves a legacy of kindness, humor, and quit wit. Always a twinkle in his eye when engagingly teasing people he did so with respect and good will. He was delighted by the energy and joy of children and challenged himself and others to "Enjoy the Moment". He loved sports, especially golf, and was a long-standing Red Sox fan. Music enriched his life with preferences for Sinatra, John Denver, and the classic big bands.
Phil endeavored to say something kind each day and he enjoyed bringing a smile or laugh to others. He was a great listener and conversationalist and he is deeply missed by his loving family and friends.
Our family extends heartfelt thanks to the skilled and compassionate staff at Winslow Court Assisted Living, Age Well Medical Associates, LifeCare Center, and Memorial Hospital. Charities/organizations that Phil valued and donated to were Pikes Peak Hospice and Palliative Care, programs to aid homeless individuals and families, and the public library.
