Phillip Dan Stamper died December 24, 2024 at his home in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Phillip was born October 19, 1931 to Grant Albert and Mildred Pearl (Keller) Stamper on a farm on the old "High and Dry", Ringgold County, near Diagonal, Iowa. He was educated in the Diagonal School, graduating with the Class of 1950. Basketball and baseball were his sports and choir and quartet were his loves. He worked for the local dairy from age 12 through high school. He was a member of the Methodist Church. He married his classmate Mary Margaret Jezek on 18 November, 1951. He worked on railroad bridges with his brothers then entered the U.S. Air Force in March, 1952. The Air Force took this small town boy Lackland TX for basic training, F.E. Warren for teletype school, Travis AFB where the family lived in WWII housing for Mare Island submarine base workers in Vallejo CA. He left alone for duty in Rabat and Sidi Slimane French Morocco. Returning to the U.S. the family moved to Castle AFB, CA., Lincoln AFB, NE, Incirlick Turkey, Boron AFS, Wiesbaden AFB Germany, Ent AFB Colorado Springs, CO. He spent a year in Laos, Southeast Asia returning briefly to Colorado Springs then on to George AFB, CA, Sembach Germany, and Cheyenne Mountain CO where he retired in Feb. 1975. He continued to work as a contractor on the Defense Early Warning in Dye-Main Canada, Cold Bay, Murphy Dome Indian Mountain AK., and finally, as a Satellite Controller at Schriever AFB, retiring in 1985. He was an active member of the East United Methodist Church in Colorado Springs, participating in the choir, Sunday School, and was a Trustee working on many projects over the years. Phillip was preceded in death by his parents, in-laws David and Matilda Jezek, brothers Donald (Gloria), Doyle (Louise) brothers-in-law Marshall and Earl. He was survived by his wife Mary, sons Wayne (Becky), Gary, Bruce (Debra), Carl (Karen), grandchildren Ryan(Kelly), Kyle, Holly (Matthew), Mark, Jacqueline (Tommie), Bradley (Sara), Alan, sister Guelda Barker (deceased Feb 2025), sister-in-law Janet, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Services will be held 1000, 25 April at the East United Methodist Church, 1505 East Monument St., Colorado Springs, CO 80909. Phillip will be interned at the Pikes Peak National Cemetery in Colorado Springs following the service. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to Wounded Warriors Foundation or Tunnels to Towers.

The RAO is staffed by volunteers, all military retirees themselves, and our sole purpose is to provide assistance to any military retirees and surviving spouses/family members with anything related to their military service and/or benefits, in particular during difficult times such as this.
