Phyllis Irene (Chambers) Battcher, age 88, a 29-year resident of Colorado Springs, Colorado went home to be with her Lord and Savior on February 7, 2024. She was born October 10, 1935, at the Illinois Masonic Hospital in Chicago, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Marvin Battcher; mother, Florence Chambers; father, Edward Chambers; sister, Marian Brewer; and grandson, Jeremy Battcher.
She is survived by her daughter, Denise Hough (Steve); and sons: Duane Battcher (Kathy) and Dwight Battcher (Sheri); she is also survived by 9 grandchildren.
After graduating with honors from Chaffee High School where she met her future husband, she attended and graduated San Diego State College with a degree in elementary education with a minor in social science. She was credentialed in California as a teacher. Phyllis further graduated from San Diego State with a master's degree in counseling and education. She taught elementary school for a number of years, including special education summer school. Phyllis was an avid learner and furthered her education by taking numerous courses in 8 different locations throughout the years while following her husband's many transfers and promotions.
Phyllis loved the Lord and His people. She served in numerous counseling roles, including as a crisis counselor for Great Lakes Naval Base, Illinois and Intercity Connections Indianapolis, Indiana. Phyllis was a planner for the Youth Pastors Association. She was a Stephen Minister. She directed Daily Vacation Bible School programs in both Mississippi and Illinois. In Colorado she was a Crisis Coordinator for the Department of Child and Family Services. She taught adult Sunday school and led women's Bible studies. She also served as a facilitator for Mothers in Stress and GriefShare.
Her Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, at 2:00PM, in the Cathedral Room at First Presbyterian Church, 219 East Bijou Street, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80903.
