Phyllis Cotten Obituary

Phyllis Cotten, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother passed away peacefully on February 21st, 2016 in Longmont, Colorado at the age of 84. She and her cherished husband Leonard were married for 60 years before his passing in 2011.

Phyllis was born in Detroit, Michigan the second of two children born to the late David and Ida Bloch. Her parents divorced when she was a child. Though this was out of her control, this made her very strong and independent. She worked in sales for much of her life, beginning with Peoples Outfitting Company in Detroit and later working for over 25 years at Montgomery Ward in Colorado Springs. She received many store and regional awards for her excellence in sales while she also raised a family.

Phyllis and Leonard were very proud to build their home in the northern part of Colorado Springs, which in 1964 was considered "the prairie". They raised their four daughters to be educated and self-sufficient. The Cotten family were members of Temple Shalom in Colorado Springs and Phyllis was also a member of Hadassah and the Temple Sisterhood. She loved her extended family there.

Music was an important part of Phyllis' life. She had a lovely singing voice and she and Leonard spent many a happy evening listening to the Colorado Springs Symphony Orchestra or dancing to the Big Band sounds at the Broadmoor. She also loved hiking with the family around Cheyenne Mountain and Gold Camp Road and later in life traveled extensively with Leonard.

She leaves behind her four loving daughters Susan Grabbs, Nancy Cotten, Lisa Crook, and Diane Bloch. Three grandchildren Daniel and Zachary Crook, and Victoria Grabbs. And also four great grandchildren Ruchama, Ita Brucha, Shifra, and Nachum Crook. She will be missed.
