Phyllis Weed Murphy, born April 6, 1929, was called by her Lord and Savior, it's time to come home, on May 3, 2022. Born in Kansas City, Missouri of parents Oliver Eugene Weed and Gertrude Welton Weed. At age 3 the family moved to Highland Park, Illinois where Phyllis attended Ravinia grade school, Highland Park High School and Lake Forest College in Lake Forest, Ill. She met her husband of 63 years, Bill Murphy, in high school and they were married in 1950. They had 2 children, Patrick William Murphy of Denver, and Janet Lee Murphy of Colorado Springs. She also had 3 grandchildren, Shannon Murphy (deceased), Benjamin Van Kanan of Aspen and Gracyn Lee Kanan of Golden, Co. Phyllis' sister, Shirley Will and 2 nephews David Mullin and Gary Mullin all preceded her in death.
Phyllis was a legal secretary and worked in Chicago many years. Eventually she and her family moved to Chagrin Falls, Ohio, for 21 years. They retired to Pinehurst, N.C. where they were winners of many golf tournaments. She and Bill also traveled to many renowned destinations during those years. After moving to Colorado Springs in 1992 to be closer to family, Phyllis became an active member of the Assistance League. She also was a Bible Study leader and volunteer of many other organizations. She was an avid hiker completing many adventures in Colorado and the west. Phyllis had many varied interests that she shared with with many friends and family including golf and tennis, knitting, reading, art, music, and church volunteer work. She will be greatly missed by her family and many long-time dear friends here in Colorado Springs and all over the country.
A memorial service will be held on May 21, at 1:00 at The Fellowship of the Rockies Church on 8th Street in Colorado Springs.
