Purvis Peeler, Former Principal at Russell Middle School and previously Assistant Principal at Coronado High School and Doherty High School passed away on May 2, 2025 at the age of 85.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Friendship Baptist Church located at 633 East Dale Street Colo Springs, CO 80903 on May 22nd at 10am and there will be a viewing from 9am to 10am.

My husband and I were soo saddened to hear about Purvis passing away he was truly a kind man. I was the lucky one he choose me from the Admin. Assistant interviews to become his secretary. Being in the front office I was able to see many ways he would handle different situations that arose at school. I remember Mr. Peeler giving LaMar Houston lectures on how to behave better at school instead of suspending him. I also remember him taking one of the boys basketball team members, along with Coach Flowers , out to a store and buying the young man a nice pair of tennis shoes that probably his family couldn´t afford so that he could fit in with the rest of the basketball team. After all he´d tell me, we´re here to serve. Purvis enjoy your next journey I can already hear you laughing. With much respect and love....Yo Ringler Abramson

I was fortunate to have known Purvis, as a teacher, at Russell Middle School.
What I remember most is his kindness, his distinct laugh, connection to Waterloo, IA and surprising him with an occasional donut.
My condolences to all who are affected by his passing.
