RANDALL LEE ALLMENDINGER

January 11, 2021
Randall Lee (Randy) Allmendinger died in Colorado Springs on January 11, 2021. Randy was born in California on July 17, 1937, the son of Jerry and Mary (Arreguy) Allmendinger. Shortly after Randy's birth his family returned to Colorado and resettled in the Wiley area, where they established the family farm. Randy graduated from Wiley High School, home of the Panthers, where he played multiple sports and even held one of the school records for more than 30 years. He excelled at showing Suffolk sheep and at one time was the proud owner of the ram "Friend," who was featured on the National Suffolk Sheep Association letterhead representing the ideal ram from the breed. Randy attended Colorado A and M, now known as Colorado State University, where he met and married Rose Mary Beman of Rocky Ford, Colorado. Randy served in the Army Helicopter pilot program after graduation from CSU and eventually used the experience to become a flight instructor for Southern Airways. Randy and his family eventually returned to Rocky Ford and then permanently settled in the Colorado Springs area. After settling down, Randy became a member of the Pikes Peak Ranger Riders, president of numerous professional associations, a successful commodities broker, a long standing member of the Lions Club International, and a breeder of commercial hereford cattle and registered quarter horses. Randy and Rose Mary eventually parted ways and Randy went on to marry Dartenella "Dart" Austin of Demming, New Mexico, and Colorado Springs. Later in life, Randy suffered a stroke from which he never fully recovered. He remained cheerful and optimistic for the remainder of his life and brought happiness to many people. Randy was preceded in death by his younger sister Sharon Allmendinger Alfrey, mother of Tammy and Teresa Alfrey, his first wife Rose Mary, and his second wife, Dart, who died July 4, 2020. Randy is survived by his children, Blake Allmendinger, a professor at UCLA; Cindi Allmendinger, who splits her time between the family ranch and her home in South Carolina; Cindi's two children, Matthew Stratton and Taylor Stratton; his aunt, Bessie Arreguy; and his cousins, Johnny Arreguy and Evelyn Arreguy. In honor of his grandchildren, the family requests that donations be made to the organizations that meant the most to Randy: the American Heart Association (in recognition of Matthew), the Ralphie Endowment at CU (in recognition of Taylor), or the Pikes Peak Range Rider Foundation (in support of the Rangerettes).
