Ray Wegner Obituary

Ray James Wegner May 28, 1931-March 24, 2006. Born May 28, 1931 to Henry and Lydia Wegner in Milwaukee, WI., Ray passed away with his children by his side, March 24, 2006 in Bozeman, MT. He died peacefully following a short but valiant battle with lung cancer. His loving, supportive nature was fostered as a child on the lakes of Wisconsin, surrounded by many cousins, hobbies and an active family. At 18 he joined the Navy and traveled to many points abroad while serving on the USS Coral Sea. Following his tour of duty and college, Ray moved to Colorado in 1960. A loving father to three children and like a brother to many, he shared with us his interests in skiing (R.M. Ski Instructors Assn.), cooking, tennis, hiking, hunting, Bronco football, fast cars, traveling, painting, and political humor. He worked as a salesman for both Royal Typewriter Co. and Xerox and as a successful realtor making a good number of dear friends along the way. Logging many miles on the road, for work and for pleasure, he drove his whole life without an accident. Ray was truly a "people person" with an acute sense of humor and seemingly unlimited cache of idioms and metaphors. Ray loved being a father to his children: Ann, Erik and Jean actively supporting their interests and delighting in being a huge part of their lives. He is survived by son, Erik Wegner and wife Nancy; grandchildren: Ford and Freeland; daughter, Ann Marie Ray; grandchildren: Haley and Shem; daughter, Jean Moylan and husband, Dennis; grandchildren: Cameron, Brianna and Palmer. A Memorial event will be held in Colorado Springs July 1, 2006. Contributions may be made in his memory to the Pikes Peak Library District, P.O. Box 1579, Colorado Springs, CO 80901, attn: Sally Houghton.
