Raymond Cox Obituary

Raymond Cox Jr, age 60 passed away on Good Friday, April 14, 2017.

Raymond was born Oct 26, 1956 in El Paso County, CO to Raymon and Luzie Cox. He graduated from Mitchell High School in 1974. Shortly after graduating, he moved to San Diego, California and attended college with a major in Environmental Control. He married his high school sweetheart Rita Espinoza, wife of 19 years.

In 1989, Raymond and family moved back to Colorado Springs. After a career as a Maintenance/Engineering Tech, he went back to college and earned a Bachelor's of Arts from CSU Pueblo. He was looking forward to starting a new career, and had a job lined up as a counselor as early as the summer of 2017.

Raymond was an avid angler who enjoyed fishing in the ocean, Salton Sea, and the many lakes of Colorado. He was a die-hard Bronco fan who attended as many games as possible and always mentioned football season was his favorite time of year. Always by his side was his loyal companion Christmas, a dog who attended all of his family functions.

Raymond will forever be missed and is survived by his son Raymond Cox III and his son's wife Tataina Cox. His grandsons Isaac, Stacey, and Raymond Kaizer Cox IV. His sisters Jenny Deloatch, Durthy Washington, and Novella Cox.

Services will be held on Friday, May 5 at 3:00PM at Memorial Gardens 3825 Airport Rd, Colorado Springs, CO 80910.

I met Raymond back at Pikes Peak Community College, when he first started attending, up to CSU-P. We attended the same classes the last several years and always kept in touch. Raymond was someone I spoke to frequently, and always gave him a helping hand when he needed it. He was someone I admired, and always appreciated. His kind heart and words of wisdom always stuck with me. My memories of him will never be forgotten. My condolences go out to his family and may he rest in peace.

I meet Ray at Pike Peak Community College when we both were in Janele Johnson's English 120 class. I would always run into Ray in the hallway, computer lab, when he finally asked me what my major was and where I work. I told him about TRiO program and he utilized the services in TRiO. We would talk about the Bronco's when he came in for his appointment pretty much all the time. I am so glad I had the chance to have known him, and he will be greatly missed. I just know when he was here......you could always find him in one of the labs, computer, math, or writing.....

To the family of Raymond, I knew him through CSU-P and took a mental illness class with him for our sociology degrees. He was a very nice person. I remember him looking so forward to doing more the youth and social work being his gateway. God must have better plans for him. May the family of Raymond be comforted in knowing that he is in a better place...

This is a COMPLETE shock to me. I only found out today just prior to class today at CSU-P. Raymond was a student of mine for many semesters. His arm was ALWAYS in the air asking questions or adding to our discussions. I can literally hear his voice now and his laugh... He was a diligent student-always wanting to know more about APA and scholarly paper construction. I have many emails from Raymond and vm's inquiring about Sociology elements he wondered about. Looking through his montage of pictures provided me a broader look into the life Raymond lived. LOVE the face paint! It serves as an example of how serious he took the things he loved!! I am so very sorry to learn that the world has lost this great man. Please accept my condolences. From these pictures, I can believe that the family has many, many wonderful memories to lean on in this time of grief...
With warm regard,
