Raymond Pompieri Obituary

Raymond James Pompieri, of Falcon, Colorado, passed away April 1, 2017. Born in Brooklyn, New York on July 14, 1946, Ray was the son of the late Raymond and Rose (Zupo) Pompieri.

Ray attended Ridgefield Park High School in Ridgefield Park, New Jersey. He entered active duty in the U.S. Army on February 1, 1966 and was discharged January 31, 1968. Ray worked for a short period of time for the United States Postal Service and re-entered the U.S. Army on January 19, 1970. Ray served in Vietnam from June 2, 1970 through June 1, 1971 as a Communication Center Specialist in the Comm Center at Tan Son Nhut Air Force Base in Saigon. Ray was assigned to Ft. Carson, Colorado and was honorably discharged on November 12, 1973 subsequently attending Colorado Technical University studying electronics. After his discharge from the Army, Ray was a member of the National Guard. During his military service he received numerous awards and decorations including the Vietnam Service Medal w/2 Bronze Service Stars, the Army Commendation Medal and Expert Badge w/M16 Rifle Bar.

Ray returned to New Jersey in January, 1975, where he met his wife, Judy, and they were married September 10, 1977. Ray worked for many years in electronic fabrication principally for the broadcast industry. He was a member of the Ridgefield Park Volunteer Ambulance Corps and the VFW. Ray and Judy moved to Falcon, Colorado in 2001 and have lived there since. Ray loved cooking, photography, cars, trucks, and trains. Ray and Judy enjoyed their retirement taking numerous road trips throughout the western states. Ray is survived by his wife Judy, sister Elaine Pompieri, nieces Stefanie Castellucci and Amy Bologna, and great nephews Aidan and Matthew Castellucci and Benjamin Genchur.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Pines Church, 11020 Teachout Road, Black Forest, CO on April 18, 2017 at 11:00 AM. A brief reception will follow at the church. Interment will follow at Fort Logan National Cemetery, Denver, CO. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the USO, Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region, or American Heart Association.
