Regina Wilson Obituary

Regina Hoebing Wilson, age 99, died June 29, 2010 after a brief stay at Pikes Peak Hospice. She was born in Greensburg, PA on October 25, 1910. Her parents were Bernard Hoebing and Justine Mary (Wasser) Hoebing. Regina was the tenth of thirteen children (eight sisters, four brothers) born to the Hoebing family and she was the oldest surviving member. Regina worked as an office bookkeeper and accountant for a building/construction supply company in Greensburg until her marriage to James Arnold Wilson, a coal miner and soldier in the Pennsylvania National Guard. In early 1941 when the guard was nationalized she began a long career as an army wife, mother, homemaker and literally, "head of the family" during those many times when her husband was away, training troops or fighting overseas. She lived on or near many army posts (including one in Japan) while having and raising four children over a period in which her husband served in both World War II and the Korean War. When her husband eventually retired after thirty years of army service, the couple moved to Colorado Springs. Regina's husband, retired Brigadier General James Arnold Wilson, preceded her in death in July of 2001. Regina continued to serve as the beloved matriarch of her family through many memorable family reunions, gatherings, and happenings. She was a devoted, wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was an avid reader, a history buff, an artist, a seamstress and in her later years grew orchids. She truly enjoyed her family and all their activities. She is survived by two sons, Colonel (Retd) James Arnold (Lana) Wilson Jr. of Rapid City, SD and Bradley Tarr (Janet) Wilson of Aledo Texas; two daughters, Judith Ann Gromelski and Rebecca Hoebing (Tom) Heck, both of Colorado Springs, eight grandsons, eight great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews and their families. Services will be held at Swan Law Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 6 at 10:00 with burial at Evergreen Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Pikes Peak Hospice, 825 E. Pikes Peak, Suite 600, Colorado Springs, C O 80903
