Mary Oliver ends her poem, "The Summer Day," with these lines:
Doesn't everything die at last, and too soon? Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?
We know what our father did with his.
He put himself in harms way for the country he loved. He loved his family and friends with all his heart. He exuded kindness every day. He lived his faith. He walked his talk.
For us, his family, he died too soon - even at 95. But what a wonderful steward he was of his one wild and precious life.
Thank you Dad for showing us the way.
