Richard Anderson Obituary

Richard Dean (Dick) Anderson was born in Indiana, Pennsylvania to Wesley and Elva Boyer Anderson. They moved to Colorado when he was 2 years old. Richard attended Colorado Springs High School, Blair Business College and took educational courses through the years. He joined the US Navy in 1942 to serve in World War II and was aboard the USS Refuge as hospital corpsman (physician's assistant) until 1946. He served two years in the Korean War. After honorable discharge he returned to Colorado Springs. He and his father partnered a limousine touring company, Grand View Tours, until Richard was accepted to the Colorado Springs Police Department, July 1950. After 25 years in 1975, he retired, as sergeant. Richard and Jeanne were married November 22, 1956. After Richard and Jeanne's retirements, they built a business in health and nutrition with Shaklee. They closed their office in 1988 to assist in the care of their mothers, father-in-law and later, Jeanne's daughter, Karen. Richard has 3 children. His firstborn, a son, Mark (Marianne), daughter Judith Gail Toombs (Robert), son Paul Daniel (Kas). And Richard raised Jeanne's two children from an early age as his own. Karen Rejeanne (Reggi) and William E. (Gene) Jones (Theresa). Karen lost a tough battle with cancer after 7 years. We wish to include a young woman we've known since she was nine years old, Tina Jenks (Charles) who has been like a member of the family over the years. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, brother Carl Anderson, sister Daisy Kelleher, her husband Robert Kelleher and their son Michael Kelleher, grandson Adam Anderson and grandson, baby Gibson. He is survived by his wife Jeanne, 10 grandchildren: Ian (Patricia), Jacqueline, Megan (Christopher), Chera, Matthew Toombs, Michael, Lisa (Nicholas) DeVries, Marc, Nicole Jones, Angela Gibson. Five great-grandchildren: Shannon, Eve, Logan Adam, Kali Ann Toombs, Joseph Toombs, Brennen Arend DeVries, and nieces Kathy (Steve) Minta, Pattie Kelleher, a sister-in-law Joyce Anderson, and cousins in Pennsylvania. Richard was a member of Tejon Lodge #104, Scottish Rite of Free Masonry, VFW Post 4051, Timberline Fishing Club. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, family and friends. He enjoyed his sister-in-law and brother-in-law living next door for many years, Marjorie L. and Ira Ward. Richard accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Saviour while attending First Sought Baptist Church. He later transferred to First Presbyterian Church. He was an usher there for many years until his knees were too painful. We also enjoyed the fellowship and association of his son Paul's great Christian fellowship friends who came to our assistance with prayers, care, labor, and spiritual and emotional support. Richard was a kind and loving husband, father and friend. He is greatly missed. Visitation 1:00 p.m., service 2:00 p.m. at Memorial Gardens, 3825 Airport Road. Reception at First Presbyterian Church, 219 E. Bijou. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Brighton Gardens and Odyssey Hospice. We give them our appreciation and thanks. We are also thankful for the assistance and prayers from loving friends.

We're so sorry to hear about Dick, and offer our sincere condolences to Jeannie and the Family. I will always remember his smile and happy nature. And how kind he was to me when I had an accident as a 16 year old and he was the investigating officer. Colorado Springs is a better place because of his many kind actions and his legacy.
