Richard Bukowski Obituary

Richard L. Bukowski, known as Dick, Dad and to his loving Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren as Grandpa, passed away peacefully on November 19, 2013 at home after a brief Illness, but mainly from a broken heart. He was loving, wonderful and caring husband, absolutely the best dad, glowing grandfather and great grandfather, trusting brother, devoted brother-in-law, compassionate boss and a trustworthy, dependable friend to many.

Dick was born in Omaha, NE on February 21, 1939 to Stanley J. and Agnes (Hvezda) Bukowski. He was the older of two children and was raised in Loup City, NE until his family moved to Colorado Springs in 1955. He graduated from Colorado Springs High School (Palmer) in 1957 and married his high school sweetheart and only true love Margaret M. (Peggy) Trapp in 1958. Peggy passed away in 2011 and Dick's broken heart never healed.

He is survived by his three children, Vicky Bukowski-Clark (Jeff), Michael Bukowski (Marian) and Mark Bukowski (Kathleen); his beloved dog and companion Mitzi; his six grandchildren, Brian Clark and Matthew Clark (CJ), Jessica Wilson and Garrett Bukowski, Michael Bukowski Jr. and Mia Bukowski; two great grandchildren, Avery Clark and Rylee Mae Wilson; eight nieces and nephews, Jill Moran (Dave), Patrick Palmer (Simmy), Lana Marsh (Scott), Lisa Trapp, Lindsay Trapp, Curtis Patterson, Craig Patterson (Hollie) and Kerie Currier (Steve) and his brother-in-law, Michael Trapp (Katherine). Also survived by cousins, Jane Chramosta (Charles), Coleen Chramosta, Michael Janulewicz, Kathy Headlee, Tim Janulewicz and Don Wesierski. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, sister Linda Patterson and sister-in-law Linda Ward.

Dick worked for Mountain Bell (US West) for 39 years. He developed relationships there that he cherished to his last day. By the number of friendships he gained and the people he kept in contact with, he was as wonderful of a man as a co-worker and boss as he was a husband and dad. After retirement he became a dad to everyone at the family business, Olson Plumbing & Heating Co. He would pick up the mail, stock the candy and pop machines and tirelessly run any errand. When Dick's illness struck, he wasn't able to come in during the last six months and everyone missed seeing him, his smiling face, and hearing his humorous stories each morning. He was a very special man who touched many people with is kind heart, high ethics and morals. He will missed by many.

Dick was a truly caring husband, dad, son, boss and friend to all. He was a devout Catholic, member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, who never forgot his humble roots in Nebraska, but he called Colorado Springs home and was very thankful his family relocated here. He was proud of his family and prideful towards his meticulous house and lawn, and his muscle cars which he would display at the local car shows. Anyone who met Dick took an immediate liking to him. As a husband, he was a role model for what a husband should be. Always by Peggy's side and there to assist her with anything she needed. He lived his life by the words "in sickness and in health". As a dad he was always unselfishly there for his three children whether swinging in the park, coaching football, helping deliver newspapers, spending the night on Pikes Peak before the Hill Climb, 4th of July firework celebrations, picnics, numerous vacations, family get together's and in later life calling each of them every day worrying how they were doing while he was in for the fight of his life. He will be painfully missed by Vicky, Mike and Mark. As a grandpa and great grandpa he always had a hug, smile and a funny story to tell each one of them to show how special they were to him.

Dick was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, Palmer High School Alumni Association, Old Colorado City Historical Society, Loup City Alumni Association and any fund raiser to help his hometown of Loup City, NE. He also enjoyed meeting his retired Mountain Bell group for monthly coffee.

The family would like to thank Dick's daughter Vicky and all the nurses, doctors and health care workers who have helped Dick through the past months. The endless hours Vicky put in to help her Dad at all times of the day and night was greatly appreciated by all. Also, special thanks to Dr. Logsdon, Lori Dagostino and all the people at Rocky Mountain Cancer Center for the special care they provided to Dick.

A memorial mass and celebration of life will be held on Saturday, November 23, 2013 at 9:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 2030 W. Colorado Ave., Colorado Springs, CO 80904.

In Lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Dick's name may be made to: Sacred Heart Catholic Church and/or Penrose/St. Francis Health Foundation, 2222 N. Nevada Avenue, Colorado Springs, CO 80907.

Dear Vicki, Mike and Mark,
It was an inspiration to watch your parents closeness and love for each other. Also their devotion and care of Mary Nell Trapp. Almost everytime I worked for her, he came down to do something for her, or to deliver something that she needed. Darrell remembers that your dad was always such a pleasant person, with a big, friendly smile! He was always so interested in the hill-climb, and they always discussed that. You could clearly see the many, many hours he spent on his beautifully groomed home and yard! Our hearts ache for your double loss so close to one another!
With our deepest sympathy!

I am saddened at the loss of such a wonderful man. I have many fond memories of Dick and Peggy from childhood and as an adult. There are no perfect words to ease the pain of your loss but you all are lovingly thought of by my family and me at this difficult time. Your Dad's broken heart is now mended. It was always a pleasure to see your dad sitting on his front porch with his little dog as I either drove by or was walking up the street with my dogs to Pioneer Park. He was always friendly and gracious and I enjoyed our all to short visits. I could tell he was most happy when he was bringing me up to date on the latest news of his children. One can always tell when someone is a genuinely fine person and I knew immediately that your dad was indeed a good and kind person.

With deepest sympathy for your entire family,

Mike Rolla

Dad,
I will miss you more than anyone will ever know. You were my best buddy and companion my entire life. We had a very special bond and this is going to hurt for a long, long time. People knew the relationship we had by just watching us together. We had so many great memories together, but most importantly you were always there for me.
Dad I will miss your phone calls, stories and everything you stood for. You were such a fantastic role model to me and I hope you were as proud of me as I was of you.
I Love You Dad with all of my heart and I will Miss You Dearly.
Say Hi to Mom and give her a hug and tell her I love and miss her.
God Bless You,
Mike

Vicki, Mike, Mark and Families,
I am so saddened by your loss. Dick will be missed by us all, I had looked up to and admired him as long as I can remember. He truly was a exceptional man and a wonderful Cousin to have. I take comfort in the thought that he is now with Your Mom and the rest of the extended Family in the Lords care. I hope you find comfort in the thought of a joyful re-union for him now and us someday.
