Richard Harry Chasteen, 84, of Colorado Springs, Colorado passed away peacefully at Penrose Hospital, Colorado Springs, Colorado on April 10, 2025, surrounded by family.
Richard also known as "Dick, "Ricardo" and "Grandpa," was born on November 13, 1940, in Elmore, Ohio to parents William Arvard Chasteen Sr. and Agnes Mary Nuhfer. After graduating high school, Richard joined the United States Air Force at the age of 17. Richard served in the United States Air Force for 21 years and retired at the rank of Master Sergeant. His service included overseas assignments to Vietnam, Thailand, and Japan, along with assignments in Illinois, California, Hawaii, and Colorado. After retiring from the United States Air Force, Richard served in Civil Service for an additional 21 years. Richard was an avid golfer, Bronco's fan, and had a playful side to him.
Richard is survived by spouse, Lee Chasteen of 34 years, sons from his first marriage, Richard A. Chasteen, spouse Tammie, and Steven Chasteen, children Walter Freisheim, Bob Nugent, Wendy Porter, grandchildren Richard A. Chasteen II, Jennifer Olague, Ashlee Chasteen, Christopher Chasteen, Alysa Malonson, Lucas Nugent, and Linus Nugent. Richard is also survived by former spouse, Shikuko Chasteen, brothers, Marvin (Jack) Chasteen, Robert (Bob) Chasteen, 7 great grandchildren and a host of other family members. Richard is preceded in death by his parents William Arvard Chasteen Sr., Agnes Mary Nuhfer, brothers Larry Chasteen, William (Bill) Chasteen, Wallace (Ace) Chasteen and son William (Bill) Nugent.
The family would like to express their gratitude to all the medical providers for their compassion and support during Richard's final days. A funeral is planned at the Pikes Peak National Cemetery, Colorado Springs, Colorado on May 9, 2025, at 2:00 PM.
