Richard Farley Obituary

January 9, 1927 - June 13, 2008 Mass will be celebrated at 10:00a.m. on June 18, at St. Patrick Catholic Church at 6455 Brookpark Drive in Colorado Springs for Richard J. Farley, 81, of Colorado Springs, who died Friday at the McCandless Veterans Home in Florence, CO. Father Brad Noonan will be officiating. Mr. Farley was born January 9, 1927, in Watertown, New York to Edward Andrew and Laura Burns Farley, where he was raised. He recognized the call to duty joining the Navy, serving honorably in WWII, and benefited from the G.I. Bill as did many in The Greatest Generation. After graduating from Immaculate Heart high school in 1946, he attended Siena College in Loudenville, New York. Soon after, he relocated to Jackson, Mississippi and worked for Browns Clothing Store. In 1952, he married Mary Eleanor Brady of Carthage, New York. He served as Treasurer of Black River Oil Company in Carthage for several years before moving with his family to Colorado Springs in 1964. Over the next 30 years, he worked for Kansas City Life Insurance Company. After retiring in 1994, he and Mary moved to Port Richey, Florida for three years. He and Mary returned to Colorado Springs in 1998 and resided here until he died. Mr. Farley seemingly knew everyone in Colorado Springs and was a friend to all he met. He loved his family and enjoyed traveling and meeting new friends. He was an active member at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Survivors include his brothers and sisters-in-law John and Mildred Farley of Schenectady, New York, Robert and Jean Farley of Sarasota, Florida, Senator Hugh and Sharon Farley of Schenectady, New York. His wife of 55 years, Mary E. Farley of Colorado Springs survives in addition to sons and daughter-in laws Richard and Simone Farley of Colorado Springs, Andrew and Diana Farley of Atlanta, Georgia, Matthew Farley of Anchorage, Alaska, James and Diane Farley of Colorado Springs and their children Blake and Shaye Farley and Sean and Christine Farley of White Lake, Michigan and their children Brock, Ian and Alec Farley. The Farley Family would like to thank the wonderful staffs at Pikes Peak and Sangre de Cristo Hospice for their attentive care during Mr. Farley's final months. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be sent to St. Patrick Catholic Church.

To the Farley Family,

My heart goes out to all of you in the time of this loss. Mr. Farley was a wonderful man who ALWAYS had his family, his community and kids in his heart. He was a pioneer in organizing the YAL hockey program going and encouraged every player to do their best. Heaven has now a new resident, who made life here on earth, much better for countless people.
