Richard Harrington Obituary

Richard Bernard Harrington, 72, loving husband, "daddy," and close friend passed away Dec 2, 2011. Richard was born on May 15, 1939 in Chelsea, Massachusetts to the union of John and Elizabeth Harrington. His parents, four brothers and beloved wife precede him in death. Richard proudly served our country in the U.S. Army for 26 ½ years. He retired in 1984 as a Command Sergeant Major. Along the way, he found the love of his life in Katie Ruth Moss. They married on January 28, 1967. A few years later, they found a new addition to their life through adoption, Kathleen Elizabeth Harrington in North Carolina. After the years spent in the Army, Richard went to work for the Postal Service. There he spent 18 more years giving friendly service to co-workers as well as the community. He retired in 2004 from the Postal Service. Richard spent many years here touching lives by showing others his huge heart for Jesus Christ at Soldier's Memorial Chapel on Fort Carson. He believed in showing others his faith by just being himself. He loved to encourage others and bring a smile to their day. If you knew him you knew you had a friend for life. Richard leaves to cherish his memory, daughter Kathleen Harrington, brother Robert Harrington in Vermont and several nieces and nephews. A visitation will be Friday, December 9 from 5-7 pm at Memorial Gardens Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be Saturday, December 10 at 10 am at Soldier's Memorial Chapel, Ft. Carson, reception to follow. Interment at Memorial Gardens Cemetery at 1:30 pm. Please visit www.memorialgardensfuneralhome.com for more information.
