Richard Thomas Johnson, 78, of Colorado Springs, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, May 3. Born on January 24, 1946, in Superior, Douglas County, WI, he was the son of Julius and Ruby (Erickson) Johnson.
Raised in Ashland, WI, Richard graduated from high school in 1964 and attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison until 1969. He served in the U.S. Air Force, stationed at the Strategic Air Command in Minot, North Dakota. On June 9, 1970, Richard married Laura Ruth Teigen in Madison, WI. After his discharge in 1973, the couple settled in Colorado Springs, where Richard spent the remainder of his life.
Richard was known for his unshakeable steadfastness and reliability. He worked for many years as an Automotive Service Agent, where his congeniality and steady nature earned him the loyalty of his customers. He never missed an opportunity to engage with his nieces and nephews, whether it was pulling them in a wagon behind the lawnmower or sharing a quiet moment. After retirement, he dedicated his time to remodeling his home, caring for his Keeshond dog rescues, and being a devoted husband. Richard had a wonderful tenor voice and he and Laura loved to sing duets together.

He leaves behind his wife of 54 years, Laura Ruth; his sisters, Dorice Nelson of Maplewood, MN, and Judy Christenson and her husband, Arlen, of Madison, WI; his brother, David of Danbury, CT; as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Julius and Ruby (Erickson) Johnson.
