Richard Kiger Obituary

Richard L. Kiger, age 86, fifty year resident of Colorado Springs, passed away peacefully June 23, 2016 surrounded by his family.

Richard L. Kiger was born February 25, 1930 in Oxford, Indiana to Clarence and Doris V. Kiger. Richard joined the military in 1945. He had assignments in France and Germany. He retired Sergeant 1st Class after 20 years of service to his country.

On his tour in Germany, he met the love of his life in 1953, Doris Beeh. They were married November 27, 1954 in Stuttgart, Germany. They moved to Colorado Springs in 1967 where the lord blessed them with three beautiful children, Ricky, Gary, and Sandra.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Sheldon, sisters Viola and Vilma, and grandson Brett Allen Kiger. He is survived by his wife Doris Kiger, children: Ricky Kiger (wife, Jackie), Gary Kiger (wife, Tammy), Sandra Swatek (husband, Rick), grandchildren: Nicholas (wife, Becca), Christopher, Morgan and Larissa. Great-grandchildren: Grayson and Addie, Sister: Florence "Sis" Dalton .

He lived a full and happy life. He raced a 1932 Ford Coupe in the stock car division from 1955-1958 at the Pikes Peak Raceway, worked at Phil Winslow Volkswagen for 7 years, owned and operated the Fountain Conoco for 10 years, worked for the Air Force Academy golf course for 9 years, Southern Colorado Nissan for 6 years, and was an instructor for Pikes Peak Community College for 2 years teaching Auto Mechanics.

His favorite pastimes were fishing, bowling, and traveling to Las Vegas, Cripple Creek, and Laughlin, Nevada. Richard loved everything outdoors. But the thing he loved most was to be with his family and friends. His humor and love will be missed by all.
