Richard King Obituary

Dr. Richard "Don" King died October 12, 2012. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife, Jean; sons, Rick (Nelda) King of Owasso, OK, Rob (Beth) King of Raleigh, NC, Mike (Kelly) of Seattle, WA. He enjoyed his eight grandchildren, Erin & Matthew, Alex, Harrison, Max, Caroline, Lucas, & Rory. He has one great-grandchild, Hudson. He was preceded in death by his parents, RC & Lida Belle King of Duncan, OK and his sister, Burnice Blair of Ft. Worth, TX. Dr. King was born in Pampa, TX. His family later moved from Duncan, OK where he graduated from Duncan High School. He received his medical degree from the University of Oklahoma in 1959. He then served two years in the US Army Medical Core stationed at Fort MacArthur in San Pedro, CA. In 1964 Dr. King moved to Colorado Springs, where he established a successful pediatric practice. He was well loved by his many patients and their parents. In 1974 he changed his focus to public health and served as a Medical Director for the El Paso County Health Department. In 1979 he became a Medical Director for Equitable Insurance Company and stayed in that profession until he retired from Security Life Insurance Company of Denver in 2001. Don loved the outdoors and spent many days hiking, backpacking, bicycling, playing tennis and skiing with his family and friends. He was an avid reader and also enjoyed bridge. He loved travel and recently returned from a trip to the Netherlands and Belgium. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Pikes Peak Library District, Habitat for Humanity or a charity of choice. A Memorial Service will be held at 4:00PM, Friday, October 19 at The Springs Funeral Services, 3115 E. Platte Avenue, Colorado Springs, CO.
