Richard P. Matthews, 83 years young, passed away August 25, 2022. He moved to Colorado Springs in 1954 and lived here most of his adult life. He was born in New Lexington, Ohio to Frank Dewey Matthews Sr. and Gladys Mae Chase.
He attended Colorado Springs High School and was known for quite a few shenanigans during that time, like trying to jack over balanced rock at Garden of the Gods and painting General Palmer's horse with orange paint.
Dick was married to Sandra on January 27, 1997 in Phoenix, Arizona on a golf trip with friends. They also had another wedding for friends and family on July 18th that same year.
Dick was an entrepreneur and started several businesses including Janitronics, Atlas Window Cleaning and Matthews Refrigeration and Heating. He was an avid golfer and member of Colorado Springs Country Club since the late 80s. Dick loved watching sports. He loved several college and professional teams including The Avalanche, The Rockies and The Broncos, and always his Nebraska Cornhuskers. He loved his dogs, Husker, Sooner, and Shiloh. He did crossword puzzles, Celebrity Cipher and Word Scramble every day in the Gazette.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra; his daughters: Kellie Faust (Cliff) and Connie Pierce (Mike); grandchildren: Sara, Bethy, Jordan, Kailee, Allie, and CJ; and 6 great-grandchildren. He also has many loving and special nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and four brothers Bill, Frank Jr., Walt, Tom, and one sister Dorothy, as well as his son Ricky, grandson Cody, and his daughter Daina. They loved their Papa, and he loved each and every one of them.
Services will be at the Shrine of Remembrance "America the Beautiful" Chapel, 1730 E. Fountain Blvd., on September 9th at 2:00 pm and a Celebration of Life at Colorado Springs Country Club at 3333 Templeton Gap Rd. following.
