we are so very sorry that we were out of town and couldn't attend
the services. He was a man who shared his great humor and love of
life with all, and we were honored to know him and Georgia. Art and

I new Dick for more than 35 years, having worked with him at the CSNB for 13 years, until his retirement. Bill, you will remember that we both worked together there for a while with your Dad. I'm so sad to hear of his passing. He truly was a very kind hearted man. For several years, he dressed up in his Santa suit and visited our home for our three young children at Christmas time. I think he enjoyed those times as much as our family did. I'll always have fond memories of Dick.

On behalf of the Memorial Health System Foundation Board of Directors and Staff, I would like to express our sincere condolences to the Mertens family, upon Richard’s passing. It is especially hard for us to say goodbye to one of our Memorial family members, but know that our thoughts are with Richard’s family and friends. His kind smile and thoughtfulness to others will live on through the people lives he touched. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and we hope you find comfort during this difficult time of loss. Richard was a truly good man. I'll miss our occasional hamburger lunches. He is however were he belongs, with his wife. My best wishes to those close to him.

I just returned from Arizona to learn of Dick's passing. I'm so glad he was doing something on his "bucket list".
