He relocated to Oklahoma to work for the FAA, from which he retired in January 2008. Following summers spent at Big Cedar Lake, in rural Wisconsin with his family he earned a B.A. in Mathematics from the University of Wisconsin and served his country honorably in Vietnam and Korea. Following discharge from the army he began a distinguished 34-year career with the Federal Aviation Administration, retiring as a Manager. Rich is survived by his wife Annette, two children, Jilliann (James Harris), of Oklahoma City, and Brandon of Independence, MO, a step-daughter, Sheila Wood, of Oklahoma City, two brothers, James Oberhofer and Thomas Reed, of Colorado Springs, two grandsons, Connor and Carson Reed Harris, a sister-in-law, Jeanette, a niece and nephew, James Christian and M. Jenifer Williams, of Colorado Springs. His parents, Robert A. Oberhofer and Nancy R. Brophy, preceded Rich in death. Rich had many diverse interests over his lifetime, including flying, range shooting, motorcycling, and camping. His sudden passing is a great loss to his family and friends, who recall him with love. We are grateful for having spent time with this extraordinary husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend. A celebration of Rich's life was held in Bethany, Oklahoma, on July 26, 2008. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the charity of choice.

I knew Richard as the forum member Singer on the OKShooter and BerettaForum websites. He was knowledgeable about his firearm hobby, was good to everyone on the forums and had a good sense of humor. He will be missed. My condolences to his family.

Rich and Annette are friends of mine who often reminded me of the Burns-Allen team. He was the straight guy and she was the cut-up. That is until you got to know him...Rich had a great sense of humor and enjoyed practical jokes. Affable, genuine and committed to his ideals; qualities that earned him respect from colleagues and friends alike. I knew his personality would be a good match for my friend Annette so I introduced them to one another and they were ‘teammates’ ever since. Let us warmly remember Rich through the laughter and happy times he shared with us, and embrace Annette in your hearts as you pray for the family at this difficult time.
