Richard Shaw Obituary

Richard was born Feb. 13, 1937 in Syracuse NY, to Richard and Clara Shaw(deceased). The family moved to Colorado Springs, CO in 1945, and he spent his childhood growing up there, graduating from Colorado Springs High School (Palmer) in 1955.

He joined the Navy in 1956, serving 3yrs., mostly in Japan, on the USS Whetstone. After the Navy, he returned to Colorado Springs, and began working for the U S Post Office, as a carrier and station manager. Richard met Judith Barrett on a blind date, and they were married in Nov. 1959. They had one

daughter, Lori Ann.

Dick and Judy moved to Hemet, CA in the mid 80's. He transferred to a Post Office there, and they lived there for 8yrs. They then returned to Colorado Springs, where Dick retired from the Post Office after 25 years. He and Judy then managed a rental unit complex for some years.

Richard was preceded in death by his beloved wife Judy, who died Oct. 27, 2007...and also by his sisters Bette and Patricia. He is survived by his daughter Lori Shaw; grandsons Matthew (Meridith) Spurlock, and Ben Spurlock, and granddaughter Lindsey Spurlock; his sisters, Carol Foltz, Donna Leasburg and

Linda Gillespie...and his adored greatgrandson, Caleb Spurlock.

A service was held for family and friends on June 27, 2015. It was officiated by his grandson, Matthew, with music by Meridith.

Richard was 78 years old. He enjoyed everything to do with movies (mostly the 30's, 40's, and 50's classics), going up to Cripple Creek, loved all animals, and all CO sports...especially the Broncos. He lived a happy life...enjoying the simple pleasures of his family most of all...and he always had a great nostalgia for the "good old days". We hope he is now at peace, and we will all miss him.

Daddy - you taught me many things but the best was our shared humor. I can remember when I was little and Mom told you I needed a spanking. You took me into my room and closed the door and told me to scream as loud as I could so Mom would think you were spanking me. Mom walked in thinking you were really giving it to me and you and I just rolled on the floor laughing. Thank you for the greatest gift of laughter!

Brother Dick was laid to rest today.
Carol, Lori, Lindsey and I took flowers, and said our last good-byes. Another sad day, but happy thoughts that he is peaceful, and with Judy again. Will always remember the laughs and fun times we shared over the years.
Love to you Dickson...Donna~~~

Brother Dick ~ I will miss your humorous back and forth chatter we always shared when around each other. So many years to reflect on you, as my brother, and I smile when I remember you. Your happiest years were with Judy and raising Lori and then the grandchildren came along and you were happy with life. Good memories for me, Dick! I'll see you on the other side! Love you, Sister Linda
