RICHARD SPRAGENS Obituary

Richard T. (Dick) Spragens May 27, 1924-May 11, 2012 Resident of Walnut Creek Dick passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, just two weeks shy of his 88th birthday from complications of several illnesses. He was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, attended Miami University, of Ohio, and was called by Uncle Sam to join the Navy in March of 1943. He was an Ordinance Specialist in the South Pacific. Upon discharge, he worked in the printing industry and eventually became a partner in Montague-Spragens commercial printing company. Dick was an avid and expert boatman owning 9 boats over a 55 year period. He was an active member of Diablo Squadron of the United States Power Squadrons serving twice as Commander. He received the Chapman Award for being one of the six best instructors in the United States. Dick is survived by his wife Melissa, daughter Susan Jancar D.D.S. and husband Tom Floyd D.D.S., son R.L. (Skip) and wife Linda, and grandson Cory; sister Holly and brother Steve. Also Melissa's family, daughter Kirstin Aldrich and husband Jeff, Karen Videlov and fiancee Bob Heriford, and grandchildren Emily and Elyse Aldrich, and Airman Travis Vindelov USN and Airman Trevor Vindelov USN. Dick was predeceased by first wife Ernestine Fahler Spragens. There will be a memorial gathering on Sunday, June 10th at 11am at the Walnut Creek Elks Lodge at 1475 Creekside Drive, off South main St. Luncheon will be served. Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army or the charity of your choice. Arrangements by Tradition Care.
