Richard Strycker Obituary

Strycker
Richard "Rich" Lynn
Strycker
February 16, 1948
August 13, 2023

Richard L. Strycker was born to Devon and Fern (Brenneman) Strycker on February 16, 1948, in Elkhart, Indiana. Rich passed away at age 75 on Sunday, August 13, 2023, with his wife, Jan by his side.
As a young man, Rich attended Taylor University where he met his first wife, Lynn Golian. They had two children, Missy and Nate. Years later, Rich married the love of his life, Jan (Adkins) Strycker on December 27, 1989. During his adult years, he lived in Indiana, Texas and Arizona but considered Colorado Springs his home. During his career Rich earned great respect in the nonprofit community as the director of Greccio Housing. He was a calm, thoughtful, positive, generous man who was professionally accomplished and known for his sense of humor.
Rich's main hobbies were anything involving sports, especially playing golf. He loved cheering on the home teams and supporting his kids and grandkids at their sporting events and activities. From the character lessons of athletes to the joy of competition, Rich was passionate about what life lessons can be taught from hard work and dedication.
As much as he loved sports, he loved his family more. His favorite thing was gathering for fun-filled holidays and celebrating his favorite people whether in Cabo or at the annual New Year's Eve parties. At the center of all of this was his unwavering love and faith in Jesus Christ. He was a Godly example to those around him and was a steady advisor in other's lives.
Rich is survived by his wife, Jan. Together they became a loving blended family with their children and their spouses: Holly (Tegtmeier) and Ben Martin; Missy (Strycker) and Andy Parks; Nate and Amber (Dughman) Strycker; Maggie (Tegtmeier) and Nichol Nelson. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren who were his pride and joy: Amanda, Chelsea, Annie and Jack; Victoria and EJ; Allia, Dylan and Lucy; Jada and Brody. Rich is also survived by his sisters: Mona Konopka, Janice Gundy; and their families.
A Memorial Service honoring Rich will be held at 2pm Monday, August 21, 2023, at the Shrine of Remembrance, "America the Beautiful" Chapel, 1730 E. Fountain Boulevard, Colorado Springs, Colorado, 80910. A reception will be held following the service. The service and reception are open to all family and friends who would like to remember and honor the life of Richard Strycker. Memorials in Rich's name can be made to Greccio Housing, at www.greccio.org.

A thoroughly good man in every way; well respected and dearly loved by his kids, grands, friends, and all his family...his legacy will endure. His life was far too short.

I was saddened to read about Rich's passing in his obituary on Sunday. I wrote about him several times in The Gazette, including a profile when he retired from Greccio Housing. He is the reason I became involved in prison ministry and I am grateful he invited me to join he and Jan on his final visit to Fremont Correctional Facility. I am sorry I was unable to attend his services and reception as I was sick that day. Please accept my condolences.

I just saw Rich´s Obituary! Ironically, I´m in Cabo and I remember how much he loved Cabo. Neither this post nor a volume of books can contain all of our adventures! Rest In Peace "ROOMMATE"!!
